I was diagnosed with an Atrial septal defect a couple of years ago (I'm 67) apparently had it since birth. I remember being told that I had a heart murmur but no-one ever explained why.
I'm now waiting to have the hole closed at St Thomass but the pandemic is delaying things. Ive been told that the hole is suitable to close by a catheter. Can anyone advise what the recovery after the procedure is like. How quickly can i get back to normal
Many thanks

This is a simple prcedure. I was in hospital for a whole day 7am until 9 pm. Then went home to bed. Felt very good the next day. No special behaviour to be followed at all. Mine was done with a sedative. in 2010 at the John Radcliffe hospital Oxford. I had prob. had the hole since birth but it gave me a TIA and docs. moved fast to close it. I was 72 at the time.
Thanks for that. My cardiologist has been great on saying what and how the closure will be done but not so much on the recovery. You've put my mind at rest
