How often are meds reviewed by GP or Cardiologist.

I have been on the same medication since Feb 2020, never the doses or my case reviewed with the exception of an appointment with a Cardiologist in July 2020.

Dealing with my GP surgery and getting any response from them is hard work, however and before contacting them I wanted to check with others how often do you see Cardiologist and have your case and meds reviewed?

Also how often do people have, if any, tests to check liver and kidney functions and cholesterol levels.

I am on Bisoprolol 5mg, Asprin 75mg, Furosemide 40mg, Rosuvastatin 20mg, Ramipril 5mg, Spironolactone 25mg. Was on Clopgrel 75 but stopped that a year after the HA stent op.

Once you have been discharged by your Cardiologist you will be under the care of your GP, so (hopefully) you won't need to see the cardiologist again.

Bloods should be checked annually and you should receive an appointment, if you don't then chase the surgery up.

Med's reviews are also generally annual, the review date is often shown on your repeat prescription, the onus is on the patient, so you should contact your surgery and request a review, these are carried out by a GP or more commonly by a Clinical Pharmacist.

I should have added, if at any time you feel you need a review of any meds because of possible side effects, then you should not wait.

As always , the assumption is that all is well unless YOU let the medics know otherwise.

I would definitely get a review .This happened to me and I had to go as an emergency to the hospital as several meds. ceased to work well and one had to be replaced by another and better med.

I get an automatic invite for a review every year around my birthday. The review relates to kidney, liver, cholesterol, B12, medication and general health plus I normally have to fill in a questionnaire about my general health and wellbeing. In addition, the pharmacy tends to have a short review with me as well so I guess I am taken care of. Hope that helps.

It’s annual for me. Bloods to check kidney function which can be (but haven’t been in my case) affected by 1 medication I’m prescribed & usually they do a full blood count at the time too. I’ve not had any particular checks re the bisoprolol, which was prescribed by a gp not a cardiologist but Im sure that’ll happen alongside the other ones.

Haven’t had the call from the gp practice this year yet but it’ll be coming up soon.

Hopefully you can get in touch with your pharmacist or Gp if you’ve any concerns about your medication or how it is for or isn’t working .

As you have not had a review or check up for 12 months I would definitely chase this up with your GP. Following a change in medication for which I should have had blood tests to check Pottasium levels (No body told me 😡) I ended up in hospital for a couple of days following an Af episode. Since then I have a blood test every 6 months or so, it gives me peace of mind that current meds are not causing problems with liver, kidneys cholesterol levels et. I take warfarin and have an INR blood test about every 10 weeks so am able to combine the two when appropriate.
