Angina ; I’ve not been diagnosed with angina … but had a trip to A & E , all bloods ok but given a GTN spray , 5 days later I’ve used the spray as had chest pain both at test and with carrying grandchild … it helped but recurring pain later and next day ? I’ve taken 300mg aspirin too ( as I did 5 days ago as I was worried) .. any advice for my next step ? Dr at hospital has referred me to chest pain clinic and says to contact my GP .

I’m trying to relax … keep moving , walking dog but had pains even doing that yesterday !

I would speak to you GP soon. I am pretty sure you should not take high doses of aspirin. They can really upset your stomach. They may have given you a high dose one in A and E while a Heart Attack was suspected (and, happily in your case, excluded). Do use the GTN spray till you get more info, if you get chest pain.

I have been instructed to take up to two sprays if needed. They should settle your pain, but if they dont and you need a third (in a short space of time) then you call an ambulance.

Let us know how you get on.

Thank you for your advice Kristen1812 . I know I wouldn’t normally take aspirin … I was advised by 999 operator 5 days ago in suspected HA. They are coated tablets but I’m so unsure what’s best to do at times . My GP practice is not the easiest to get an appointment but I’ll try electronic request and then triage and see how I go ?! .

I don’t want to be a prisoner to this but the frequency already of pain is scary and I’ve had my 2 grandsons overnight age d 6 and 23 months ( not seen them much due to me having Covid over Christmas )

Anyway thanks again … much appreciated . 👍

Dear shebes66

What a worrying time for you, but a big welcome to you also.

Most on this site are not medically trained and those that are would not be able to diagnosis you on here.

But having said that, your worry was so great that you have contacted here.

The GTN spray relaxes and opens up the blood vessels allowing more blood to flow to the heart.

I think that it would be very clear to the medical team if you had standard angina but there are other forms that are not so easy to diagnosis.

Please this is not to worry you and remember I am not medically trained.

It seems that the spray is doing its job and it is quite common to have to use it throughout the day more than once , just watch out for headaches etc.

You need your follow up with your GP and all the results from the tests given you at A&E should be with them and hopefully start you off on a journey to find out what is going on.

Please remember that you are not alone and if we can help in anyway please post away.

Take care
