Afternoon Michael,

Only mentioned to Sunnie yesterday that there were a few members that I haven’t seen any posts in a while.

You start to wonder if everything is ok.

Wishing you a very happy New year and the hope that your year goes from strength to strength.

Best wishes Pauline.

Hi Michael. I haven’t been too good lately but try to keep up to date by looking in from time to time. Had a shower yesterday morning and after drying myself my body went into spasm. I can’t move without crying out in pain. If I don’t sleep tonight I will be calling GP. I hope you had a good Christmas. Best wishes.

Hi Micheal , I’m still alive, although by the end of the day I’m bushed. Had the grandkids today , all three of them at once and my head is now bursting I need Valium and therapy 😂😂 hope Santa was good to you and you’re doing well

Michael. There are a few very unhappy people with what has been happening recently on the forum. I know from personal messages that at least three long time members have been blocked. I think most know what has caused this. Highjacked by selfish minority

Hopefully it is only a temporary thing and we can get back to some semblance of normality in 2022 and just deal with the things most of us have experience of and advise from a place of knowledge.I was just filling up my pill dispenser for the week and I now take 10 different tablets a day (I know that is nothing compared to others) When one of those is mentioned I will try and give any help I can.

Not all the pills are heart related but for diabetes and long term infections.

I do worry that those I haven't heard from for a while have had some kind of set back.

The Atrial Fibrillation forum has been very quiet too. I think everyone has been busy over the Christmas period entertaining friends and family. It will soon be back to normal.

Hi Michael, I suspect Christmas hits us in one of two ways. Either its a time of meeting family and friends or we block it off and bunker down till the new year. I expect a resurgence of posting in the new year and I'll be resuming my posts about my volunteering work in hospitals. I wish you new horizons in 2022.

Good Morning, Michael, I am still around but I have had worries about myself & my husband’s health. I had a stroke earlier in the year which set me back a lot, it was 3 years to the month since my bypass. I was lucky in that the ambulance got me to hospital quickly & they were able to give me an injection to help to stop the paralysis down one side & my speech. It has left me very weak but I’m now trying to improve my fitness ect. Then in November my husband, Vince, went for a cardiac angiogram & they wouldn’t left him out due to total blockages. He stayed there for 10 days & then he was transferred to Liverpool Heart & Chest where it was decided to do stents instead of a bypass. He was allowed home in the second week of December & is now recovering at home.Sorry for the long post but it has been a strange year for us.

Oh Jean, you certainly been through it this year haven’t you. So pleased you are improving from your stroke, certainly a shock when that happens. I lived with my Dad who had a massive one when I was 11. No help many years ago, speech and R side very affected. However I always remember him for his patience living a very restricted life. Do hope your husband is relieved he’s had the stents inserted. We are so fortunate nowadays aren’t we?

So wishing you a very happy and healthy 2022, life is precious isn’t it?

Marigold x

thetidders profile image
thetidders in reply to marigoldb

Thank you for your best wishes, Marigoldb, the same to you for 2022.As I said, I was lucky when I had the stroke because the ambulance took me straight to the stroke unit at our local hospital here on the Wirral & they were able to give me an injection to lessen the effects of the stroke including my speech which had apparently been badly affected. The injection has to be done ASAP after the stroke to have a good effect. Like you said it wasn’t available years ago for patients like your dad.

I too have been off line for a while still struggling with spasms and mvd. Spent Christmas arranging finances as I now have to retire due to Ill health. 15 months before state pension but let’s hope 2022 is a good year for all .

Milkfairy profile image

I had to retire in my early 50's, way short of my state pension age.

You can 'buy' the missing years if necessary to ensure you get your full state pension.

Have you thought of applying for a Personal independence Payment,

PIP?

I was successful in my application, not easy but worth the effort.

Wishing you a spasm free 2022!

Milkfairy profile image
MilkfairyHeart Star in reply to Abergele

Don't try and fill the form in without help.

I used this organisation benefitsandwork.co.uk/perso...

Also try Citizens Advice.

There is an absolute art to filling the form in.

I drowned them with paper work. I sent copies of my test results, clinic letters, prescriptions and discharge letters from hospital.

48 documents in all!

Get all this stuff ready before you request the form. You only have a limited time to fill the form in.

I had to pace myself and do little bits each day.

Good luck with your application.

Benefits and work is incredible help. When I used Citizens advice at a tribunal some years ago, I Lost. I do the claims myself now with advice from B&W. I sent 21 extra pages last time and they still demanded a face to face assessment. The forms are a nightmare. They hope people will just give up.

I think, for me, not posting is a sign of life being normal and my not thinking about my condition too often. I do read the posts, and I comment occasionally where I think that my experience might be relevant. But the hope for all of us is to be able to get on with life? So I'm grateful for the support of this forum being here.

Hi everyoneI enjoy reading other's posts and seeing that I'm not alone.

We never really got to the bottom of what caused my MI in 2019, angiogram in 2020 was clear. It's been put down to MVA (Syndrome-X it used to be called!)

Some times I have weeks, even months without any pains and I feel like a fraud.

Sometimes I think I'm having an MI with the tight-chest, breathlessness and pain but the GTN works!

All in all I think I'm doing really well, with nothing to report.

Hi Michael,

I hope all is well with you. All is fine here. Just sitting in lurk mode waiting to provide support and encoragement to anyone in need as relevant to my experience, which by its very nature is somewhat limited as I was sorted PDQ. Like everyone here, I too am hoping for a better year in 2022.... we say that every year and mostly it turns out to be the opposite for one reason or another, not always health related. 😯 Anyway, it doesn't stop us hoping.

All the best to everyone for 2022. 😀

Hi Michael, I read the daily digest every day but only comment where I can help. It's 2 years now since my stroke and diagnosis of AFib, earlier this year after further investigations I was also diagnosed with DCM. All being pretty well controlled with meds. Life isn't the same but it's still a life, for which I'm extremely grateful. Hello all, I haven't been around for a while although checked in from time to time. The past few months have been very difficult, as my husband had been diagnosed with colon cancer some weeks ago, he had surgery last week to re-section the bowl, they are hoping that it has been caught before it has spread! As a result my Angina has played up big time especially the past week as we really didn't know if my husband would be home for christmas, he was discharged on christmas eve at 8 o'clock in the evening, thankfully. Stay safe all, x x

Still here. I've managed to reply to a few posts but have felt very down over christmas. Son is away abroad for the first time ever and thinking of moving permanently. I'm too disabled to ever visit him. Haven't seen a soul over Christmas and have only left the house once since June (other than medic appts) since a vertebra moved and have unbearable pain in my legs. I don't know anyone here since we moved because I can't even get into the garden and have no other family at all. .Was referred for cataract op 2 weeks ago and this morning had a phone call asking me to go for pre op next week!!!!!!!!!!!! Had to delay it until April and better weather and hopefully get some treatment for my legs. Now getting chest pain- or is it spine? Impossible to t ell.

Sounds awful. Hope they manage to sort you out. Why did you postpone cataract surgery? As you are indoors the weather barely seems relevant.

Qualipop profile image

The hospital is an hour away and it will require at least 4 visits. RIght now I'm in too much pain to travel anywhere or to lie in one position for half an hour without moving. If we get snow or ice I can't use my scooter or wheelchair. If the journey is when cars have headlights on, they diffuse so badly they make me vomit. I talked it over with the hospital and they agreed it's better to delay to better weather and more daylight rather than possibly have to cancel. They are not urgent.

Don't post much but read feed every few days & reply where I feel I can help, had a pretty good year apart from a period of ectopics & low heart rate in May resulting in more tests etc seem to have cleared them up for now, just side issues now like poor sleep & constant Tinnitus to work on which get me down at times.Wishing everyone a better 2022

Pretty sure I've looked in recently, though not commented.

Finally completed my Cardio Rehab Therapy almost 18 months after the surgery.

I am able to walk a bit more, but still totally dependent on some one being with me when leaving home, whilst also having to be driven everywhere and taking my electric wheelchair.

I have been discharged from the operating hospital and local Cardio Clinic.

Awaiting the outcome from tests with neurology and Maxi Facial - and now I seem to have an appointment with the Pain Clinic (apparently requeste by GP!) It appears my re-grown upper lip is as good as it is going to get (no feeling no control) as 2 of the controlling muscles were destroyed by the impacting HSV that ate it away post op. Awaiting to see if a main nerve that connects tongue and lower jaw/ lip to the brain has been damaged.

Memory is still rubbish, eating is easier (but still restrictive) and my grandchildren are enjoying my post op speech impediment (I can't pwonounce my R's pwoperly) - Xmas cards addressed to Gwandad 😂 As Pauline (080311) has said, it's easier to laugh at the situation than get upset about it. Balance seems to be getting slowly better - but I still get easily fatigued and it seems as though my eyes take the brunt of it - they feel scratchy in the sockets and become keen to stay closed!

I was trying to remember what my position was a year ago - and couldn't remember, so pondered what position I will be in this time next year - it was easier, no thinking involved 👍

Apparently my cognitive abilities will only improve if my brain creates new neurons to recreate the ones lost in the post op stroke - not expecting much more than I have now, though there has been some improvement. Neurology thinks its as much to do with depression and anxiety caused by the restrictive mobility and capabilities I now live with - apparently loss of independence = loss of need to actually think or try to do anything.

We will see, but as with the film "Don't Look Up", the bar has been set low.

Any future non contributions should be put down to my forgetting I'm actually registered with this forum - otherwise hope you all managed to enjoy Xmas and New Year celebrations under current guidelines, and 2022 will bring some improvement to life 👍

Morning Brand,

So good to hear from you, life sometimes seems so difficult, but then we think about how things have improved even just a little. I remember Johns stroke nurse telling him he was going through a grieving process for the life he lost and the one he as now. Like you the new pathways were made within the first 6 months and then more slow improvement. His eyesight would never improve the that part of the brain that connected to his eyes completely died.

Your right I did say sometimes you have to laugh the situation is so ludicrous. John is now 5 years on from his stroke, he is still here sometimes struggles but he is still my husband still as the same sense of humour. As his bad days but we have good days to.

Best wishes Pauline

in reply to 080311

Good to hear things are 'chugging along' Pauline. Realised yesterday it is no longer 'when I had my op last year...' - it was the year before now. So we visited a local lake to enjoy the calmness of it all (and celebrate).

I like the 'grieving process' analogy - and looked at it that way, but it certainly makes sense when you think of it that way. One of my wifes friends husband is having OHS today, and talking to him, answering questions etc have helped remind me of how far I've come since the day of the operation.

I think it is a case of sometimes taking a step back, to find the right path so you can take a step forward.

Hope the weather is not making things too tough for you.
