Hi, I had chest pain and a burning sensation in the middle of my chest about 3 weeks ago I was takenTo hospital and the upshot was I was sent for angiogram. After that I had angioplasty with 4 stents inserted in 2 of my main arteries. I have now started my rehab with small walks gradually increasing. My question is I still have aches and pain’s across my chest which are bearable, however the burning sensation is still the same as it was before procedure. Does anyone else have this? or know if it is quite normal ? Or is it just healing? I feel anxious which I’m sure is not helping! I am waiting for echocardiogram appointment to come through maybe this will give me some answers.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi Thanks for your response. Yes the burning sensation does seem to come after a walk, as do the aches and pains. I understand that I’m only a few weeks in to my recovery and cardiologist has explained that I could experience this while the stents settle down. I suppose I was expecting not to have the same sort of pain I was getting pre stents & like your self to have complete relief. I’m 48 & very fit with no heart problems previous (family) BP, cholesterol etc all good, so this has come as a shock to me. I do feel anxious so it may be this? Like I said I’m waiting for an echocardiogram appointment so hopefully this may put my mind at rest.
its just so easy to put everything down to your heart condition. I am waiting for MV repair and thought the pains I was getting were to do with that. I was also concerned that the discomfort could have been an enlarged spleen as have also been diagnosed with low platelets so paid a visit to GP for reassurance. Whilst there i mentioned that i was often getting indigestion/heartburn and he prescribed omeprazole, after two days the discomfort and pains have all disappeared.
You've more than likely been put on a bit of medication post-op which could be irritating your stomach lining (mine caused erosive gastritis). Your heart's been through a lot, as well, and everything needs to adjust, so there may be some discomfort for a while. But keep your walks up, do your rehab with the nurses, and you'll be good as new in no time.
Of course, it goes without saying if you ever start to feel really bad, or the pain becomes uncomfortable, or you experience any other MI symptoms: RING 999 IMMEDIATELY.
sir i am 46 years with 4 stents same problem it will go away when you paas 5 months or more the main thing is our mind we cant accept why this happened , from this we get anxiety it will go away trust in god
Having a heart attack or angina event leading to stenting is a very traumatic event. It is normal to feel anxious about it for a while. I remember, I used to be anxious going to sleep every night and during the day feeling sad as to why it had to happen to me. It took many months for this and many other emotions to slow fade away. Dont fight it. Feel all the emotions. Sit with them. Remember the worst is over! You came out of it. You will only start feeling better from this point onwards with each passing day. Some basic yoga (breathing excercises) and meditation can also be helpful.
The aches and pains will all settle over time. The burning sensations could be the meds. It takes a while for the body/stomach to get used to the high dosage cocktail of meds. Trust your doctor, do your daily walks without fail and most importantly believe that you are on the road to recovery.
Great answers…..but I would take issue with suggesting GTN can confirm heart issues. It’s effects are general (dilating the blood vessels) and not specific to heart issues. Cardio nurse told me a spray can help other symptoms too.
