Have any of you had a burning sensation on the upper chest with severe aortic stenosis? It’s strange to describe, but I’d say it feels like my skin is burning or has ice on it. It only seems to bother me at night. Luckily, tonight I’m wearing a halter monitor, so they should see what’s going on when it burns.
I suppose it could be called pain, but I recognize it as burning.
So far I’ve had an EKG, bloodwork (which isn’t back yet), and the monitor, which comes off on Sunday. I’m just concerned that they shouldn’t wait too long, but my cardiologist doesn’t seem too concerned, although I just told the NP about the burning Thursday, so cardiologist may not know yet.
Any thoughts or has anyone had this? TIA 🙂

I have the discomfort and I have moderate to severe aortic stenosis I recently had a holter monitor on and felt so unwell while wearing it and it didn't pick up anything abnormal. I don't know if valve issues are detected on holters but I'm not hundred percent certain. I was told in a years time will need a new aortic valve x hope you find what's causing your burning problem sounds so uncomfortable! 💔😭
Hi Yumz, thanks so much for responding. Are you saying you had the burning, or another type of discomfort?
The same for me since I’ve had the monitor on, had a horrible night. Burning for hours, sudden shocks waking me up, I think I maybe slept 2 hours if that.
Today I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck, or like I have a horrible flu, which I don’t.
Another type of discomfort I think it's angina but hasn't been confirmed x very uncomfortable wearing it and I had a very bad allergic reaction to the ecg stickers. So sorry to hear your feeling unwell. Hope your not waiting too long for results.
I think a Holter monitor just picks up rhythm issues, not blood flow issues.
I never had the burning sensation, but I had severe aortic regurgitation rather than stenosis. (I got a mechanical replacement 4 weeks ago, along with repair to my mitral valve. Even with severe regurgitation in both valves, my EF stayed above 50% and I never had any symptoms. They finally pulled my ticket because I was getting LVH.)
Hi pad, you know I never thought of that, I was hoping it would show if anything happened to my heart while I was having the burning, sudden shocks, and flu like symptoms all night. But maybe not … darn!
Yes but my burning was more like heartburn and would happen if I walked too fast or up a slope or if I felt cold. That was 20 years ago before aortic valve replacement.
I had no pain or burning even when my aortic stenosis was so bad I finally went to emergency. I thought it was pulmonary edema, which I'd had before years ago as I had very severe shortness of breath on walking even as little as 20 feet. I'd be doubled over trying to breathe I also had racing heartbeat. the doctor in the ER and the cardiologist I went to afterwards said I was so bad they didn't know how I was still on my feet at all let alone still breathing. I was very close to death. They got the fluid buildup down after my being admitted as an inpatient and a few weeks later I had a TAVR done which got rid of all the symptoms. I haven't felt so good in years.
I had a Holter fitted today, and asked as I remembered this post what kinds of things it can detect. The senior cardiac physiologist told me it only picks up rate and rhythm abnormalities and would not pick up things like stenosis or valvular issues and that the assessment of such things would require an echocardiogram. Hope you find out what it is in a timely manner and it's nothing too sinister.
