Chest pains with bisoprolol

Hi everyone, I was put onto 2.5 mg of Bisoprolol and Apixaban 2 months ago after an episode of AF. I'm now getting almost continuous dull chest pain, as well as feeling very tired. Does anyone else have this? The nurse said my symptoms may be caused by the Bisoproplol and I may need to come off it and try a different drug. Has anyone else had this please and could advise about coming off the bisoprolol if I need to?

Hello. I have been suffering from chest pain since my HA in Feb this year, I been to a private cardiologist this week who ruled out my chest pain as heart related. He said I have probably posture problem or one of the medication is causing chest pain, I’m also on Bisoprolol 2.5 mg. Eagerly waiting which medication he will tweak for me

Try ringing 111. I ignored a dull chest pain and ended up being blue-lighted to A&E, with a week in hospital, a bucket-load of meds and now a pacemaker. It might just be indigestion, but get it checked ASAP.

Hi, I've been to A and E when the pain first started several weeks ago and they said there was nothing wrong with my heart. Since then it's got worse but is still only slight. I spoke to the cardiac nurse yesterday who said it might be the medication causing it. I'm waiting for more tests.

I'm glad you are having it looked at. I hope it is resolved soon.I am on Bisoprolol, and it seems to make me sleepy mid-day.

Yes me too. I thought I was getting better but the pain is getting worse and more frequent. It was once a day for an hour or two, now most of today and yesterday.

Hello Ruby40. Do you find it’s worse after exercising?

I was on 2.5 Bisoprolol for 18 months but it started to cause an increase in angina pain, changed to Diltiazem which caused tachycardia so went back to 1.25 Bisoprolol and all ok. Obviously your pain may be something entirely different so I'm not advising you do as I did, just sharing my experience.

Hi ruby.

I had exactly the same problem on flecainaide. Just progressively got worse and I took myself off it and went back onto bisoprolol.

Have been ok on bisop since going back. I also have problems with certain anti coags as well. Everyone reacts differently to different meds. Get it checked out and good luck 👍

Thanks for your response. I think they said they might try me on fleicanide but just left hanging.

That’s what they did with me. I started on bisop and was switched to flec as pip due to fatigue on bisop. Was ok on flec as a pip but it stopped working and I had to switch to taking daily. Within a few days i went downhill rapidly. Worst I’ve been since having AF. Lasted 6/7 weeks but literally couldn’t take it anymore.

Within days of switching back to bisop I started to improve.

Many people have found success with flec though so you may be one of them hopefully. Everyone reacts differently on different drugs.

I think my fatigue first time round on bisop was actually due to the anti coag they had me on ( which I didn’t need 🙄). Once I switched back to bisop minus the anti coag I was fine. Also I recently had to go back in anti coags due to having an ablation and I had exactly the same problem on the same anti coag. They switched this for edoxaban and I was ok. Bloody complicated this medication lark 🤣 I’m hoping I won’t need to be part of it soon if my ablation works out ok 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I've been on bisoprolol since August first 5mg now 2.5mg. I was miss diagnosed due to poor MRI images so was initially told I'd had minor heart attack. New images show myocarditis but this has led to minor heart failure with 50% ejection fraction. I too have been back multiple times complaining of chest pains. Cardiologist doesn't think it's heart related as inflammation has subsided. I have had my suspicions of it being the bisoprolol for some time now but cardiologist just tells me it it's more than likely muscular as he's not known anyone to have side effects from this drug. However I feel fine before I take it the after an hour I get pains across top of my chest and centre for the rest of the day.

Hi Ruby, yes I’m on both of those, 5 mg of bisoprolol twice per day. And apixaban twice per day. I do get tired and often fall asleep halfway through the evening, sometimes in the afternoon after playing golf. I just take it that my body needs rest and so I go with what my body is telling me and catch a few zzzzzz’s. I do get some chest pain left hand side ( just where my heart is) but spoke to cardiologist and he doesn’t think it heart related possibly muscle pain. I ignore it now and away it goes.

Have you done and echo/ct scan ? I think we should not avoid and dull chest pain. Before stopping 2.5 biso , how about decreasing the dose to 1.25. Just an gradual phase out

Yes I've had an echocardiogram and am waiting for a ct scan. I'm not going to stop anything on my own, just waiting for instructions from the cardiologist.
