Hi, new member, I feel stupid. I am a 49 year old male, I have had chest pains for past few months, on the odd occasion, like sharp stabbing pains just to right of left nipple. Not done anything about it, as usually wear off after a few minutes. Had one 8 hours ago, and another one an hour ago. Should I be concerned? No history of heart disorder personally, though my late father had history of heart attacks from 40, and died at age of 54.

I was 49. I got an achy chest totally out of the blue. These lasted 3 days. On awakening on day 4, they were worsening. Phoned 999, ten minutes later ambulance arrived, ecg by the paramedics. "You are having a heart attack sir". Blue lighted straight to operating theatre, stent fitted. Possibly saved my life.

Don’t ignore any chest pains my husband had been having chest pains on & off for a few years he is older than you but 2 years ago he had a widowmaker heart attack (the name says it all) when the main artery (lad) to his heart was totally blocked. His symptoms weren’t typical even an ECG on the day was clear it was only a blood test in the emergency department that indicated there was a problem. They told me if I’d hadn’t insisted on taking him in that day he wouldn’t have survived the night, as others have said don’t assume symptoms are typical and as you have a history in the family they will take you seriously.

I know from my condition to never take an ECG seriously if you continue to have chest pain. I had 6 negatives

Please please get yourself answers to your pains, whatever they are caused by was enough for you to not only join this site but also to post your concerns.

Please don’t just disappear, you asked the questions and believe it or not, there are plenty of people on here {myself included} that would love to hear your found out answer.

Hello and welcome David. You need to get checked out at your doctors if not sooner. I know its a worrying time. But don't put it off. I had been fine with my blood pressure and heart rate. But then suddenly developed a slow heart rate and needed a pacemaker. So get checked out. Its only an E.C.G. to check your heart out. It could be indigestion. But please get checked out. Hello. I just wanted to say...never, ever, feel stupid, especially when it comes to your heart. Most things that “may” be heart related will turn out not to be but just occasionally they are, so keep a written record of how you feel, when, how long for and seek medical advice. That means 111 when it’s happening and your GP for a full review. If you have a BP machine then check it twice a day for a couple of weeks for normal readings and also when you’re having an episode or as soon after as you can and keep a record. Also write down what you were doing before you had one if these episodes to see if you can establish a pattern. And any meds/supplements you take plus when you take them. Then you have objective notes to take with you to appointments.
