New medication given

Hi all. My mum had a heart attack and heart failure in Feb 2020. She didn’t have a stent fitted and is on lots of different tablets to control everything. She has regular check ups with the heart failure nurse and after having another stint in hospital earlier this year with her lungs getting fluid on them, she’s had her medication tweaked again. My mum this week has been feeling breathless a lot so yesterday when she visited the heart failure nurse she had her medication tweaked again and has now been given Entresto sacubitril/valsartan 24mg/26mg to try. She has to come off ramprill then after 2 days start taking this instead. Anyone else on this? And if so how was it?

Hello :-)

Sorry to hear about your Mum

I have not been on that medication but I am on a cocktail of meds like so many of us are and it did take a while to get the right combination when I started which can be very common

What suites one does not always suit another

Someone will no doubt see your post that has or is taking this med but all I can say is I hope this does suit your Mum , give it a go and if it doesn't then do not despair they have a few they can try us on and they will get there and she will feel better soon :-) x

I had 2 heart attacks just over a year ago (no stents) and have heart failure. Ramipril gave me a constant cough so my consultant switched it for Entresto a while ago and I’ve been taking it ever since. I’ve had no problems with Entresto and I’m sure it’s helped improve my ejection fraction. There’s a lot feedback on Entresto in this forum (mostly positive).

I had my HA August 2020 with EF >35%. Changed from Ramipril to Entresto a month ago & was ok on lower dose 24mg for 2 weeks then increased to 49mg., however was experiencing dizziness & brain fog. Visited Cardiac Nurse yesterday, blood pressure quite low so meds tweaked to higher dose at night & lower dose in day to see if this helps. Everyone is individual & I hope your mum reacts well to the changeover of medication. Let us know how she goes on.

Hi penny, I too was swapped onto entresto the middle dose. I had no problem changing from one drug to it( think it was ramipril can’t remember). Last consultation my EF had improved to 30% from 15% at diagnosis. More importantly I did feel a lot better in myself so have only positive things to say. As everyone keeps saying the EF is just a number it’s also very important how you feel which my HF team seem more concerned with. Hope it all goes well for your mum.
