“Heydes Syndrome” - Just another one to add to the myriad of new words I’ve learnt in my so far short but eventful heart journey . Was rushed into hospital on Saturday severe breathing problems coughing up blood , I’d been diagnosed as anaemic in the week very low HB believed from a GI bleed !! More new words ! Any how after discovering a bucket full of fluid in my lungs things began to improve . I saw an on call cardiologist who read my notes and instantly diagnosed Heydes Syndrome directly caused by aortic stenosis! ( a side dish if you will ) And once valve surgery is complete the syndrome / the bleeds stop ! The evidence is compelling ( apparently) But In the meantime it does add another layer of scary to the wait for the surgery which is the only option to stop the Heydes syndrome .
So ……. if you experience low HB and have AS perhaps drop the name into the conversation - my Gp when I spoke to her said she kicked herself for not realising , but it as it is unusual- yet with AS it’s an added extra so one to watch out for .
On the plus I’ve now got my review meeting Monday with cardiologists and surgeon fingers crossed ,I hope for a small step forward .
Stay well people

Hi there - The nurse in hospital this weekend who monitored mine was happy if I got over 100 /68 - mines always a bit low but … It’s been really low because of the anaemia - so they expect it - and I’ll take anything over 100 !
The Hb in the blood should be around 12 mines been around 6 - currently holding at 8 ! But this is typical of the Heydes syndrome ( apparently )
I’m no medic I’ve only experienced this in the last few day ! Best to check with your cardiac team
