So I have been having vivid dreams (could say nightmares) and when I wake up I have symptoms of angina (aching in arms etc) and can feel my heart beating more than normal. I'm unsure whether during the dream my heart is racing faster because of what I'm dreaming about or I'm having the symptoms and that's why I am dreaming? Hope this makes sense it does in my head? Just wondered if anyone else had the same? I am waiting to go back in for another stent and an artery drilled out.

Dreaming
Are you on Bisoprolol? It's notorious for vivid dreams, I posted on this a couple of times. I get them most nights, sometimes nightmarish ones, sometimes just really vivid, like it's real, I have to force myself to wake up to stop it, it's more or less lucid dreaming, a semi conscious dream state. I can also wake up with an elevated heart rate, but only a few beats more than normal. Can be scary but within a minute of "waking" I'm fine, normally get up and go to the toilet and fall back to sleep again. I think it's more likely that you're dreaming than it happening. Aching in arms maybe due to your sleeping position, I frequently wake with a dead arm, but I had been sleeping on it.
I mentioned it to my doctor a few times, he just said side effect and not to worry. I do get concerned sometimes as its pretty scary, seems Bisoprolol is the culprit but all BP meds can do it to a certain extent.
Yes I am mate. Thanks for this I have been very worried about it. This makes me feel a bit better.
Just to back up on what’s suggested. I get the most awful nightmares and my BP is at its high point first thing in the morning. I take Tiny dose of bisoprolol but I am reluctant to connect the drug with those dreams, because I have had the dreams years before the drug. I classify regular dreaming then night mares and then night terrors. The terrors are night mares that don’t stop when I wake up. And often ruin part or all of the next day.A good tip is to not think about the night mare and do not talk about what was in the night mare.
Best wishes

My dreams have been panic ridden since taking Verapimil. Never had them before but the my afib has been persistent since June.
I never used to remember my dreams but since my HA I have had recurrent vivid dreams. I suspect it is the meds. I am on a high dose of Bisoprolol.
Yes some involve running or impossible climbs others panic sort of as not knowing how to do something that I feel I should know or trying to travel somewhere normally by bus but keep getting on wrong bus or it won't go to where it should. Normally 2 to 5 times a night. As said has been said once I wake takes a sort while to work out difference from dream and real life. On Bisoprolol and others.
I have terrible dreams since I started all the heart meds. Didn’t relate the two things at first. I was taken off Bisoprolol and statins early on due to issues but nightmares combined with horrendous angina continued. After a year and many Med changes the vasospasms are more controlled and the nightmares have reduced slightly - query links ??? Sadly a lot of my dreams involve my close family who are no longer alive. I wake up thinking they are and even think about ringing or visiting them - particularly my only sibling - only to eventually realise it was a dream - the sadness is then consuming and depression is not far behind. The other nightmares are similar to those described in other posts. I think you are suffering effects of meds but don’t ignore the angina pains if they persist.
I often dream about family that have passes away also. Thanks
Probably caused by anxiety and not medication. I had a left coronary stent fitted 3 years ago and being a worrier had the same type of horrible dreams. After a fair time past and it does take time the anxiety became bearable and the nightmares almost stopped. Try and address anxiety as it must be the most destructive issue after having heart problems. Good luck with your forthcoming stent.
