Any suggestions to manage itch?

My husband had his quadruple by pass surgery 2 weeks ago. His scars on the chest and leg are itching, I think it’s a sign of healing but, is there anything he can apply to the scar to feel less dry and less itchy, something like coconut oil ?

Hello :-)

I feel for him , my chest scar would and still does now and again itch

I would gently run either side of where the wound was and it helped a little

Also I was advised to get some Bio Oil , it will help with any dryness :-)

I am sure others when they read your post will have some good advise and I wish your Husband a good recovery :-) x

I started with a little vasaline once the stitches had 'dissolved' and after 4 weeks a bio oil gell. Is he getting too hot, because that can add to the sensation of itching. It's a case of stay warm enough for comfort but not letting yourself get too warm.

It's a really unpleasant part of the process but it gradually stops.

Thank you. He seems to be eternally cold right now.

That passes with time. We all heal at different rates but the general direction of travel is the same.

Tell him that it dose get easier with time.

Fifteen weeks ago today I was on the table. Now I am replying to you on my lunch break, before I hang a couple of internal doors.

Just tell him that it's his own pace that matters, not anyone else's.

And wish him luck from me 👍.

I swear by aldi lacura care & repair aloe vera lotion

Lacura lotion

Tattoo butter can help a lot , you will get that at a tattoo shop or on Amazon . Also maybe take an antihistamine as well .

My hubby was so itchy that the district nurse prescribed Piriton. You would obviously have to check with you GP but it did solve the problem

Thank you all so much. He does have a GP appointment and is on the list to ask. He was given E45 in the hospital for his palms. He said he will try that now.

Thanks again!!!

Hello Heartylife, I can relate to this. I had double bypass in April and had itching . The scar on the chest and one on my leg. Thought it was just healing itches but eventually visited doctor because it was getting red and seemed moist. I had a mild skin infection that I was treated with medication and hydrocortisone cream. Monitor the scars for any changes as it could well be just healing itches.

Thank you so much for all your advice. He is meeting his doctor on later this week so decided to just check with them and then use one of the products.
