Hello Bobandjane and welcome to the forum!
The answer can be very much affected by the medications you are on (BP, statins, blood thinners, etc.). If it is difficult to contact your GP your pharmacist should be able to advise you.
My husband’s meds are ramipril, ticagrelor,, bisoprolol, linagliptin, atorvastatin, and takes 300mg allopurinol daily. for gout. This has significantly reduced his gout attacks.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for your response but I’m allergic to allopurinol
Sorry about that jumped in with both feet before fully reading your post. Gout has been a big problem for Garth for years, despite taking allopurinol recently he ended up on a course of steroids after a flare up. Can you tolerate colchicine? The docs usual got to drug for flare ups. Down side it can only be taken in short bursts. It seems to work for some people when they feel an attack coming on?
Dear Bobandjane
I have gout and the flares are moderate. I trust you know that once in your system it’s there Permanently, so flares are almost certain. Ouch it smarts doesn’t it.
I think that reasonable diet might be the better route for some of us.
I have reacted to the medications, so I don’t take a preventer, just a reaction one that I keep in store. Mine is colchicine. No idea whether it works, the pain is so extreme I don’t notice much else.
Disaster last year. I had AVR so shouldn’t lift anything, hardly use arms. Then gout when I couldn’t use legs. What a terrible few days. But it’s gone for now,
Colin
Thanks Colin seems we are in the same boat I’ve been cursed with gout for years but always had it under control
After the heart issue four years ago now it’s still hangs around worse sometimes as I can’t do pain killers
I just live with it I was hoping to find a quick fix on this site but it seems everyone knows a bit about everything but no simple solution
Cheers anyway
Can your GP not advise or do they have an attached pharmacy where the pharmacist could help you. They usually have more knowledge about meds than GPs do. Our surgery has a pharmacist who advises on such things.
I'm on the full amount of heart meds and for other conditions, 24 a day total, a year ago started on colchicine which is gout med, but they use it for the heart. I have been told what affect it has, but I've forgotten. Maybe worth a try. Take care. Moni
