Hi

Recently had an heart attack 13 weeks ago & since starting the medication I am suffering from back pain at the right hand side when out walking, cardiologist nurses think it could be the statin I am taking. Anyone else getting these same side effects?

Thanks

Are you on any heart meds? Both my husband and I take similar meds and both have suffered from back pain at times since taking them. They can be adjusted. We've not had the pain from statins. I'm on simvastatin.

Hi yes i am

I recently had my Atorvastatin lowered to 40mg from 80mg which hasn’t improved anything , it’s odd because the pain builds up after around 5 minutes into my walk .

Thanks

It will take some working out. In my case I seem to collect fluid in my lower back so when I start to walk I get the same pain I get in my feet with the fluid. With my husband it was kidney function affected by heart meds so he had to get it checked out and his furusemide was changed for Bumetanide which has helped. I've upped to near maximum on furusemide and really getting the fluid down has helped. If you have heart failure nurse care they will be best to try and identify the cause if not I know you will get advice on this sort which you will need to sort through. The thing is not to ignore it as it can make life harder than it need be.

Hi . Have you been told by your medical team that the pain you are experiencing is related to the statin you are taking?

Hi Walter61 , no i have not been told it relates to statin i am taking .... this pain on a scale of 1 to 10 is a constant 9.5 plus . All pain relief prescribed so far does not touch it .

Hi, Join the club, I also have crippling sudden right side back pain. I'm 11 weeks on from HA and stent and I'm on Clopidogrel 75mg Candesartan 8mg, Eplerone 25mg and Fusemide 20mg. and Warfarin. I have now refused to take Statins as I have other problems and statins made them worse. Also came off Ivabramide as it caused hallucinations.

I use heat pads and Voltarol but nothing seems to ease it, I would be interested to know if any of the medications are causing it. Is it an effect on the liver and kidneys?

I spoke to the Heart Failure nurse about it but she didn't know why it's happening, I'm supposed to be starting the heart exercise programme, I couldn't do it earlier as I was just too ill but I really can't see how I can manage it with this pain.

Hello

I have been getting these aches and pains since my ha in January. I have recently been diagnosed with 2 x compound fractures in my back, which I go for another x-ray today to see the extent of the damage.

So at the minute I don't know if they are related to the statins or back pain. I also get dead arms if I sleep on either my left or right hand side.

But I think it may have something to do with the statins. I've mentioned this to the cardio nurses and Dr. Both sat it will takes time for the meds to kick in. Surely they would have settled down by now.

Since my ha I've lost 2 stone and my cholesterol is great, but it wasn't that high when I was admitted to hospital.

I go back to see the consultant next week so I'll mention all this to him and see what he says.

Not sure any of this helps.

Not what you're looking for?
