Hello all, my husband got a triple bypass last 22dn of July and we had some ups and downs. 3 days ago Gp doctor was suspected that the wound in the chest was a bit infect (the top of the wound) it so he is having antibiotics. I am concern about the cares the wound, they said keep it clean and dry but I found my self sometimes lost. Last night he was with sweat and a bit of fever and I try to control it. Yesterday the doctor came and checked on him because he was with low blood pressure so we stop by his instructions ramipril.
It is still early as it is just 6 weeks after the surgery but the recovery is not going smooth. Someone in the same situation?
Thank you

I had a triple bypass last year (amongst other things), and apparently developed Sepsis in both leg and chest wounds.
According to the Wound Investigation Nurse - infections post OHS are not common, but not unheard of either. However, unlike your father, I was still in hospital when my infections occured so had the benefit of full clinical support a hospital could offer.
Do not be afraid to chase the issue up with the hospital that performed the surgery - I was also advised that sometimes they bring the patient back in to ensure the infection is brought under control.
Even after discharge, I spent almost 3 months doing weekly trips back to my hospital of surgery (50 miles each way) to get my wounds checked and re-dressed. Both are doing fine now - though the leg one does keep my grandson amused when ever he sees it 🙂
Good luck with getting your Dad's wound infections sorted out.
Hi, I am cabgx5 a week earlier and now I. Week8 after op. I had similar but not as bad about Week 3-4. I was cleaning hands with alcohol 70% wipes before I touched the wound — drain holes but got pus discharge. I was put on penecillin tabs for two weeks and along with morning and evening cleaning with the wipes it cleared up… then got a steroid cream to apply thingy to the wounds to help with scab reduction and new skin to form. Last day of steroid cream and wounds looking a lot better… seems to be perseverance, sterilise before touching etc and don’t be afraid to contact doctors. I was told by hospitalmdocs that cabg rehabs are considered “low threshold” for catching anything or wound care. If you call docs & use low threshold they (normally) respond ASAP as well.
