Walking/exercise App

Can anyone recommend a reliable App to help me keep track of distance walked daily? I started with NHS Active 10, but soon realised I should not be aiming for anything that strenuous with my heart problem. Thanks 👍

I use a free app on my phone just called "pedometer". It only counts steps, and not terribly accurately, but I find it helpful.

If you have an iPhone health app is standard and pretty good

Hello,I use My Fitness Pal but I have to tell the App how far I have walked. Is there a way of getting the App to count steps or distance?

Regards,

Hi Angina 53I now use MapMy-Walk. (From Under Armour).

It tracks distance and talks to me when I have done a mile. Easy to use, press start, go for a walk, press pause then finish and save. Shows you total distance walked, time taken, elevation, and a map of your route. I just look at distance, as it was helpful to build up post op. Recommend giving it a try.

If you wantvyo track your distance, I use Mapmyrun and Run keeper. Although running apps, you can select walking as the exercise type. They both also give you a map of where you've walked.

Strava is a free download and works for me. Sometimes I add a heart rate monitor to ensure my exercise targets my objectives and helps monitor fitness increase/ decline.

I bought a basic fitbit after my HA and found the app very useful for exercise and for counting calories to help with weight loss. I recently changed to an apple watch (for the ecg function) but have not found an app as simple to use as the fitbit was.

Sounds a bit too technical for me, but thanks for your reply.😀

We use Map my Walk. It’s basically a GPS tracker. It should exactly how far you walk and what kind of walk it is. It tells you your pace and time too. You can save each walk and then compare back to see how it compares to other days. Works on android and is free.

Sounds like that's what I am looking for. I will give it a try, thanks.😀

My daughter bought me an Apple Watch for Christmas. I’m currently housebound but I monitor my steps every day. It’s amazing how they clock up. I’ve a lot of health issues by I try to do at least 5,000 steps a day. Best day ever was just touching 8,000. Good luck.

Thanks, and well done with that.

Hi I use Strava and record and save my walks. If you do the same walk again you know the distance so no need to have it on.

A funny app I find useful for motivation is Walk to Mordor. If you or anyone here is a Lord of the Rings fan then it’s for you. Friends can join you on the app and you can walk there together. It’s around 1900 miles. So far I’ve done 145 miles 😂

You can get an avatar and of course you can have a LOR name all of your own.

Happy walking!

❤️Maisie

I’ve got a basic Fitbit - and set it to remind me to move if I haven’t done so. I use it as an alarm too and find it pretty good.

Thanks, but I'm not into tech as much. Will probably have to succumb eventually.

I started using Active 10, pushing myself to do the brisk walks. I checked with a BHF nurse about this and my heart condition and was advised not to. I know it doesn't give me as much benefit, but can't be helped for now. Thanks for your time.👍
