Do you have to wean off one tablet before starting another BP tablet or just swop. Iv had one gp say wean off and another just swop. Ramapril to candesartan. Anyone?

When I swapped Ramipril for Entresto, I was told to leave a couple of days before taking the new drug. The leaflet in the packet said the same thing. I don't know about other drugs. I might be worth asking your pharmacist, or the BHF nurses.

Thank you will do

I changed BP meds 5 times when 1st prescribed, each time it was a straight swap, 1 wasn’t and that was due to a bad reaction so took none for a week or so.

I've only given beta blockers a few days when changing to different types. Never had a problem.

very difficult when one doctor says one thing and another doctor says another!!! please do not take advice if given on this forum as we are not allowed to give any. what suits one person will not necessarily suit another. perhaps ask your pharmascist?

my dr put me on atenalol, her husband took me off it a few months later she put me back on it been on it for 20 years now and ramipril too. he thought it was hard to lose weight on the beta blocker and she thought the benefit outweighed the cons. awks eh?

It depends on the meds. Sometimes the ingrients in the meds react with each other and could cause bad reactions. I'm being swapped from ramapril to entresto and have to leave 2 days in between.

Just leave a day start new. Just gets old out of system. I was told same. No side effects.

Hi cakesandbakes,

I'm another one who changed from ramipril because of the cough to candesartan. I specifically asked my GP the same question and was told just to swap. I had no problem, and the cough vanished 11 days later!

Best you ask your GP or pharmacist what to do in your own circumstances, though.

Pharmacist here - swapping from ramipril to candesartan can be a straight swap.
