Hello cardiffhoney

Welcome to the forum, lots of members have been in your position having open heart surgery and wondering what next!

5 years ago I had Aortic valve replaced and bypass done came as a shock couldn’t understand how my body was letting me down it never had before. When we have a heart event it’s as if our life flies out the window and this new life flies in. We have medication to take diet to watch exercise to do. We have blood tests and drug review with our GP. But what we are is still here, we are the lucky ones. It took me a while to get my head round the thought that someone had held my heart in their hands, but came to realise a had been given a wonderful gift, and have been grateful every day to the medical team that gave me my life back.

You are now a member of the Hearties family, we are merry band and try to help each other where we can.

Have a great recovery.

Best wishes Pauline

Yes, I had a quadruple just over three years ago. Despite good cholesterol and BP it was not unexpected as my father, his brother and their father had all died prematurely from heart attacks.

The really jmportant things are to do the breathing exercises to fully restore lung function and not to push up from chair or lift more than a half kettle of water. I have only met one person with an unstable breastbone and it not something anybody wants.

Hi there- yes I had a heart attack 2 years ago in April & came out of hospital 17 days later with a quadruple!! I only went to a football match - expected to be home as normal a few hours later. I consider myself incredibly lucky as so many people just have the Big Bang - I consider mine the warning so it could be fixed. Now know it’s genetic. Recovery takes time both physically & mentally but be kind to yourself & welcome to the zipper club!!

Still a journey but grateful to be here for my family

Just treating infection on leg where vein taken out but is on the mend

Take care

I had bypass surgery on 29th June . Doing well , progress was hampered for a few weeks by an infection in my wound site and had to be readmitted to get it drained but I'm moving in the right direction now.Have been managing to walk for an hour / an hour and a half each day this week 😀

Wishing you a steady recovery 😀

Hi, I went in 6th June for a quad and settled for a triple. They'll review the fourth in due course. Touchwood all going well. Am up to 15-20k/steps a day. Am back driving. Whilst I feel great in the breathing department i still need tyo rest in the a afternoons.

Yes, I had quadruple bypass too in February following what they termed a "mild heart attack" it was totally out of the blue, I'd been feeling fitter than ever!Do the breathing exercises, eat & drink sensibly, do some exercise every day - just walking is ideal - (don't push too hard at first), and contact your local cardiology rehab physios who run the rehab exercise groups. My recovery is going pretty well, though I still have some sternum pain and numbness and also find I have days of low mood occasionally.

Good luck 🙂

CABG x3 for me in June 2018.

There are loads of us on here in the same boat as you cardiffhoney, so welcome to the club. Many of the posts on this forum are along the lines of "X is happening to me, is this normal"? If anything is troubling you ask away! You'll soon get reassurances and good advice from the good people here.

All the best....

Alec.

Hi, I had my heart attack Feb 7th 20, 3 ops cancelled but finally 3 March had quad bypass and discharged 9th March to the start of the pandemic. Had no rehab as was stopped due to pandemic and little contact with GP or hospital, felt thoroughly let down but also feel very lucky to be here. I was back working from home in June, then back to my place of work September.

Get out of breath quickly and quite tiered towards the end of the day but main thing is I'm still hear and happy for it. All the best on your journey.

Haven’t been on here for a while, just seen your post and if you are interested you can check out my posts from Feb 2020 (I think you can search on my username when I had a quadruple heart bypass with a week’s notice. I don’t know if it will be any help but there are plenty of us in the same position so you should post questions here and you’ll always get a response. Take care.
