Good morning GardenerWithcat. That drug gave me leg ulcers and that was within a week. Still got the scars from them. They say loosing weight. That's if you need to and exercise can help with blood pressure. But the exercise is harder as you get older. Sure others will be along with suggestions. Enjoy your day. Brian

For me, nothing works better for lowering my blood pressure than cardio exercise.

Hi and welcome. I was put on Amlodipine at Xmas after an aortic valve replacement. At first my legs felt very heavy and I felt fatique which I put down to the tablets and was advised by forum menbers that this might be due to water retention in the legs. My ankles were a bit swollen at the end odf each day so I stopped taking them and symptoms seemed to improve. A month later I went back on the Amlodipine because my blood pressure was very high. Since then I have experienced no side effects and It's one of the few medications that is controlling my blood pressure without making me feel dizzy. As others have said weight reduction and regular excerise help, but I would add stress reducting activities such as tai chi, yoga, singing etc whatever works for you.

Hi GardnerWithCat

I too am just starting this medication and I'm absolutely terrified after reading the leaflet that came with it! I hope you are doing well with this medication? Please let us know how you get on and I will do the same. Best of luck you 😊👍

Hi I have been taking it a few weeks now and so far so good the only thing I find is I find it a bit harder to do my normal fast walking pace then before I took Amlodipine waiting for telephone appointment with Doctor to see if this is the meds or just coincidence, have you just started taking them?

Not yet, only picked them an hour ago. I need to drive tomorrow morning so may take them mid day.

Thank you so much for coming back to me. The medication leaflet was terrifying. I am glad sounds to be working for you.

I need to exercise now although I'm not a fan. Going to try yoga too, but I have horrendous balance, so that should be hilarious 😂

Thanks again, you've given me a sensible nudge to at least try them,

I was put on Amlodipine in the ER hospital when I had a problem related to the KETO Diet I was on. One of the symptoms was my BP was all over the place. I continued to take Amlodipine after and my cardiologist convinced me that the med would positiovely affect my veins and arteries seeing I have a little Afib Flutter and Hypertrophic Cardiomypathy. The only apparent downside is my cough that can come from taking Amlodipine. However, the drug may be responsible for some reduction is weight training performance as well. I don't feel as strong or energetic. And muscle gains are harder to come by. In the past, my body has always responded quickly to exercise. I'm changing cardiologists and he is putting me thru a whole battery of tests and we WILL be discussing my meds. As far as lowering BP, the best thing for me is to lose weight along with a regular exercise program.
