Having had a number of sudden acute cardiac arrests ( all but one in hospital) 7 weeks ago , I was fitted with an ICD and am now recovering at home. My cardiologist has said today that his working diagnosis is tacotsubo syndrome also called “ broken heart syndrome “ But also calls it “ long QT syndrome “ I instinctively feel that tacotsubo is unlikely for various reasons. Does anyone else have any experience of this ?

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Sorry I cannot help you on this. It may be worth editing the title to something like "Takotsubo vs. Long QT Syndrome" to attract more relevant views".

Hi, sorry I can't help re your diagnosis but how are you doing having had the cardiac arrests? I had one 2 years ago, due to a wonky aortic valve, and have found the SCA UK Facebook group very helpful and informative. They are also part of the SADS charity and there are a lot of members with an ICD fitted.

Good luck with finding out what is wrong.

Many thanks to you and everyone who has replied. No more trouble with cardiac arrests , and thankfully, pain from broken ribs finally subsiding

Hello,

There are a few forum members who have experienced

Takostubo syndrome. Hopefully they will be along soon.

It is more common in women and tends to happen after a very stressful event.

Cardiomyopathy UK has some information about Takotsubo syndrome.

cardiomyopathy.org/takotsub...

Coronary vasospasms can also cause arrthymias leading to a cardiac arrest.

Living with uncertainty can be so unsettling. I hope you are able to find out the cause of your problems soon.

Hi there, I had an episode of takotsubo cardiomyopathy in 2018,which also included a cardiac arrest. I wasn't aware of any one particular stressful event, but had breast cancer surgery and radiation therapy 6 months before that, I still suffer from pain in my ribs, presumably because of the number of broken ribs.but other than the AF that resulted from the takotsubo/cardiac arrest,my heart suffered no further damage . I also have a lung tumour and an adrenal nodule. Can't really help you other than to say,if you have stress in your life, try to get rid of it,thats what my wonderful cardiologist told me. I try to do exactly that, and live every day to the fullest. Good luck with your diagnosis and I hope you feel better soon.
