I thought my long wait was over on Thursday, fully prepared, TOE, X-RAY, ECG, etc., only to be told that that on instructions from NHS 2/3 of LGI beds will be allotted to Covid patients.
My husband attended the appointment with me and we were utterly devastated, still are. I had a NSTEMI in April 2020, with 2 more blue lighters since and told I needed MVR plus some repair to my tricuspid valve .
I am mentally and physically as prepared as possible for my age (79)
Any suggestions?
Sue☹️🙏

It actually was words of support, as I said the Title is political and it will detract from the serious post, as it will invite the wrong comments.
As I (in PM to her) and others have suggested in her other post, it would have been better to delete this thread and re-post with a more appropriate Title.
Have to agree with Gaz. Sorry about your issues and I am sure it will be sorted out as soon as it’s safe to do so. Don’t think Boris has much input into your case. Hospital managers decide
Hi Jamie. Some people don’t want to take on board the fact that the NHS has been underfunded for years and that Government ignored putting in measures to be ready for a national pandemic. Not entirely sure why…..5 million people are currently on waiting lists apparently. It’s going to get worse too if ‘no mask wearing’ becomes the norm. Hope you get the treatment you need soon. Take care x
How disappointing for you. Have you been given any indication when you'll be likely to have your procedure? It does appear strange that it was stopped at the very last minute.
It’s actually quite common for procedures to be cancelled at last minute, emergencies always take priority and if ITU beds are taken by COVID patients then even more likely.
It's not unusual for ops to be cancelled at the last minute. I had my AVR cancelled twice on the day I was due to go in to hospital, third time I actually got in to hospital, stayed the night, prepped and in surgery gown in the morning and op postponed until afternoon, then at 5pm got to op wouldn't be going ahead and sent home. Finally had op done the following week. Although it was extremely frustrating and stressful, particularly as my husband and I both had to keep rearranging things with our respective employers, but the way I coped was by being grateful that my surgery wasn't an emergency, unlike the patients who had bumped me off the list.
Hi Sue, I'm fine now and having taken early retirement after being made redundant at the beginning of the first lockdown I am now thoroughly enjoying life. Will be better now we can get out to the motorbike races we love. I never think about my op now, even though I ended up with a pacemaker. Hopefully there isn't too long a wait for your op. Take care
Just change the title to “Covid Bombshell” - because ultimately, that is the cause of this policy that has caused your so much pain and despair.
In regards to WHY they cancelled your procedure - I see nothing on your list that requires a special bed or theatre. My TOE was performed in a ‘Day Unit’ - not suitable for Covid use as recovering patients too densely packed. Who has ever needed a bed for an X-Ray? I’ve had ECG’s sitting in a chair and laying on one of those GP Surgery type beds - so again, no bed needed. I had an Angiogram carried out in a clinic that was only fit for such procedures - those where people come and go after a few hour stay, they also PaceMakers in the same place. Most people are awake during all the above procedures - so not getting it.
Unless the etc. Includes some ‘real surgery’ I don’t understand the need to deprive you of those tests!
Thank you for your reply, sorry to hear about your experiences and glad you are now recovered.I have had the TOE etc. It’s the MVR which is cancelled for the foreseeable future which is disappointing but I appreciate completely that is something we have to face during the pandemic.
So sorry you have had this hiatus with your treatment. It’s been a difficult time for heart patients needing to specialist care or hospital treatment, with such uncertainty about bed and staff availability.Have you tried to find out what level of urgency they have put on your investigations? Might be worth ringing the Consultants secretary?
Hello there, thank you for your comments, I will be contacting the consultant’s secretary today. Unfortunately we are in a high Covid area and when I was seen on Thursday the consultant couldn’t foresee my surgery being before the end of the year but it would helpful to know what level of urgency they put on my case. Thank you
Sorry to hear about your delay. Unfortunately this has been going on for many years even before CovID. There were multiple delays before I got a date before my bypass, and it was then cancelled and delayed once I was in the hospital. A friend's wife was cancelled at the last moment. I trust you you get a date soon.
