Hi folks

Haven’t been on for a while , but a a question about chest pain and thought this would be my first port of call...

I was diagnosed with Coronary Artery Spasms (Vasospastic Angina) last December and been taking Diltiazem (200mg) daily.

I noticed recently that I now get an annoying , uncomfortable pain in the middle of my chest (feels like my heart) when I breathe deeply , turn or bend over. It feels like I’m pushing on my heart, which causes the pain. It’s more obvious when bending over also seems to be getting worse. I don’t really get anything when at rest.

I should point out that I’m a very active 59yr old. I have considered the following , but just not sure :-

- Could this be wind as suffer badly with wind ? Not sure as the pain is there all the time when bending over etc and would expect with wind that it would come and go.

- Could it be muscle related - I have part time delivery job an do a lot of lifting an twisting ? I have also been doing a bit landscaping recently , which is quite physical work. I also suffer from back and shoulder pain (arthritis and prolapsed discs) Or...

- Is this heart related ?

My GP has washed his hands of me so I won’t be going to seem him. He just gives me pills for everything rather than investigating the source of problems - he’s an internet doctor!

I don’t take any other meds other than the Diltiazem and Omeprozol.

I don’t know what to do and getting quite worried (which I should do with my current heart problem) so I’m hoping that Ill get some good advice from this forum.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and take care .

Hi battle, the first thing is change your GP, as soon as you can. If you get chest pain that you are unsure about call 111 or go to your nearest A and E, you will be investigated and either get the appropriate treatment or get your mind put at rest. It sounds like you are doing a lot so it could be muscle, but a call to 111 will at least get you on the right road. Angina like symptoms normally come with exertion and go when you rest, that's how mine were. I hope you get sorted!

Thanks hor your reply JimIOW .Apparently I have the type of Angina that can happen anytime even at rest . I've never had to use my GTN spray as I think the meds are working well.

This pain has a distinct pattern in that it only happens when bending ,turning and or taking deep breaths e.g. getting up out of bed or picking something up. The strange thing is, I deliver part time for Argos and would be in / out of the van and moving heavy stock / kit and not suffer any pain/ discomfort yet bending over to put on my shoes or getting out of bed can bring it on. I can't figure out why its not there all the time yet will affect me a few times every day .

The point about doctors, are they not mostly all the same now i.e. dont have time for you or just precribe pills for everything rather than investigating the source of the problem? Its very disappointing to feel that you have no where to go to get ' REAL ' help.

I used to get pain when bending to tie my shoelaces, but that was because I had become a bit overweight and it was literally squashing my organs, but you sound a lot fitter than I was...I really hope you get it resolved and I understand completely about modern doctors...
