Chest pain when I bend

Good evening all, does anyone else get chest pain and breathless when they bend. I’m finding that lately when I go to get stuff out of the oven I get this chest pain and breathlessness. I have Coronary heart disease, had a heart attack in 2017 and have 4 stents. My cardiologist also thinks I have small vessel disease.

I’m concerned about getting a heavy dish out of the oven on Christmas Day, my husband is disabled and is unable to help.

Joan x

it’s probably best to consult your doctor when it comes to new pain / something that’s different to the norm.

and in the meantime have a rethink how you can cook Christmas dinner to avoid the pain (whatever the source heart or muscular).

Pain avoidance / management is all some people have. Adjusting and adapting life to cope helps.

Have a lovely dinner however you cook it!

👍

Thank you for your reply, I’ll see how it goes and pay more attention if it happens again.

Oh wow that's so odd you made this post because the other day I had tight chest pain when bending over I now realise it was a pulled muscle but I don't for life of me even know how I did it. Hope your ok have you been to the gp? X

I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about but I will keep an eye on it.

Hello,

I remember someone else with microvascular angina describing the same problem of feeling breathless after bending over or tying their shoe laces.

Apparently it's called Bendopnea!

I agree with Fanfab1's advice about discussing this new symptom with your GP.

I hope you find a way to adapt the cooking of your Christmas dinner!

Thank you Milkfairy, I’ll certainly see how it goes and mention it to my Dr.

I have exactly the same problem when I try to lace up my shoes, sharp pain and feel winded. I have angina, take 120mgs angitil x2 day.

I bought some lightweight large aluminium trays for baking. I bring them out onto a wooden board but they’re plenty strong enough.£1 each in Sainsburys I think. Have a lovely Christmas and take your rest as often as you need. 🙏🏻

Good morning Mirador 19. Sorry I can't advise about your health issues but regards getting a heavy dish out of the oven. Perhaps if you have a low stool or sturdy box to put it on 1st from the oven and then give yourself time to eventually lift it up to the work surface. I do hope you manage ok. And enjoy your Christmas lunch. Brian

If there is normally just the two of you for meals can I suggest an air fryer in future-the type with 3 shelves.

they can be at worktop level, ensure portions are not over heavy and are quicker and save energy. Get around 10 litre capacity-others will likely be too small. Personally I think the ones with baskets are inferior unless you do an awful lot of frying. The oven style is much more versatile

Hi Devonian 186, just thought I'd let you know that I looked into getting an oven type airfryer and am now the proud owner of one, it certainly stops the bending down and so far meets all my needs. Thank you for your advice.

Excellent. They are certainly a valuable addition to any kitchen just on energy grounds but when they can help alleviate health concerns that is even better.

I just wanted to say that I get chest pains when I bend forward, and I had a MINOCA heart attack 2 years ago, no stents, but a lot of pain. As others have said, have a chat with your doctor. I try not to bend over from my waist, I sort of crouch, which is ok if you can get up again. I wish you well.

Two possibilities: hiatal hernia and/or Gerd. I have both of these and if I bend over I get a tight chest and breathless like you. Your doctor will most likely investigate. Good luck!

You need to see your doctor as many has said. I get the same symptoms when I bend over and I have Heart failure, arrhythmias and severe pulmonary hypertension. It could be anything. I’m sure you don’t actually have all the things mentioned here. Most symptoms can go with a lot of conditions. All the best.

Hi Mirador. Feeling breathless when bending over, tying shoelaces for example, is usually because you are inadvertently squashing your lungs. Stand up and normal service should be resumed
