Hello, my resting heart rate seems to be dropping each day but if I try and contact cardiologist never comes back to me, should I change and ask for a second opinion?

My heart rate drops to 50’s when sleeping during the night but during the day is around 80/90

My heart rate drops to mid forties most days. When it gets to thirty something i start to act.

How do you feel when it drops? 55 isn’t really that low especially if you have no symptoms.

I’m generally feeling dizzy but cardiologist has previously said a couple of years ago now as long as your not passing out of no consequence! So need to pass out he is saying before they would act, do further tests.

in reply to Skelson1

If your cardiologist is aware and isn't concerned, then i wouldn't be. You could mention it to your GP for their opinion.

We are all different, my resting HR is high 40's/low 50's, i feel fine however.

If your symptoms are bothering you dont let them fob you off, keep pestering. I was in a similar position with bradycardia and pauses, Cardio kept dismissing it as anxiety but eventually I saw a different doc and he did all the tests and hey presto I had a pacemaker fitted.

Thank you funny you should say that, I have had Anxiety in the past and now everything is put to that, I think a big flashing A comes up on the screen and that’s it no further examination, that’s how I feel anyway, unfortunately I don’t have any trust in them anymore so think what’s the point of trying to get to see someone if it’s ore-diagnosed as Anxiety 😟

It's well known that women with heart problems are ignored and fobbed off with the same old anxiety diagnosis, soooooo very annoying and wrong !

I did enjoy the day when my tests showed a definite problem so I was proved right ! It took me 6 years and 3 Cardio s to get to that point !

You should at least get a 7 day ( the usual 24 hour is useless) monitor which will show them exactly what's happening and how often.

Don't give up, it's your quality of life that's suffering so keep at it.

So true - it took me 12 years to be taken seriously!

Women do not experience heart attacks like men.

Tend to agree with you. My wife had chest pains and they tried to palm her off in A&E with their favourite anxiety diagnosis. It’s the diagnosis that sends people home so they have nothing to do.Don’t get hung up on the numbers though. As others have said 55 is not a bad number for many people. But if you want to speak with a Cardiologist be persistent and insistent. We pay taxes for a Health Service not a Fob Off Service which it tries to be all too often.

Personally I think his attitude is well off. You can’t drive feeling like that and I wouldn’t want to go out the house!

Thank you I will think about the GP, I know what you mean about the different devices though thanks again

my resting heart rate is 50 or a wee bit less. It concerns me so next week when cardio consultant phones for an update I think I need to raise it with him. My throat hurts quite a bit - do you experience that too?

I have a sore throat and headache at the moment past 3 days but put it down to a bug if some sort 😟

Have you done a covid test? A report I saw yesterday said he main symptoms of this new variant are sore throat and headache.

Ive just done a home test this morning and my partner has posted so fingers crossed 🤞

With reference to your dizzy spells have you checked your blood oxygen %. I use a Pulse Oximeter which I use regularly. My blood % varies from 98% down to 80% but can and does return higher when I take slow deep breaths. My resting heart rate is 45 - 52 bpm. Hope you find your answer soon.

Thank you, I do have a Oximeter so I check from time to time, it’s usually ok 👍

My resting heartrate is normally around 54/55 and can drop below 50 when sleeping. After my surgery 2 years ago it was up around 75 to 85 and it took a good while for it return to normal. Cardiologist is aware and isn't concerned. Though I am now on 1.25mg bisoprolol as I had a few episodes of afib after surgery then tachycardia.

My rest heart rate is in the low 50s. Occasionally drops to 48 or so. However I don’t get dizzy on standing up and usually go upstairs 2 at a time. I exercise by walking briskly about 5 miles a day or 30 miles or so a week. I measure bp and blood oxygen daily - both ideal. I am 76.

I have an Omron X7 bp machine and a Kardia that takes heart rhythm readings, both very good. I didn’t like this ‘fobbing off’ habit 😡

My HR has started dropping to the low 50’s breathless. Just got told to increase Bisoprolol to 1.25 and not cut it in half every other day and increase Flecainaide to 100mg x2 instead of 50mg x2!! I don’t think I can tolerate this medication

I don’t take any medication at the moment 😀

Similar to others I have bradycardia, resting heart rate usually low 40's but today been down to mid 30's. Alarm has gone off on my Garmin watch, does this when it hits 35 BPM, five times today and felt a little giddy when getting up from sitting for a while in the last couple of days. In between I've run 5 and 7km and taken heart rate up to about 150. So message I guess is that know what's right for you and contact medics if you stray to far away from that. Was on 5mg bisoprolol, reduced to 2.5 and now on 1.25 as on higher doses lots of giddy spells. BP was 108/54 this morning, on usual combination of ramipril, aspirin and atorvastatin. Just finished ticagrelor as 12 months post MI and 2 stents in LAD.

Heart rate and BP were pretty low normally before MI and was fairly fit if a little over weight!

Best of luck

Thank you, I don’t take any medication I know some of this can lower heart rate so would be the normal with medication

This is what I got back from the cardiologist secretary re drop in heart rate! Nothing to do, surely there is a reason for it dropping!
