Hi, iw51
When we have such a major op it’s not just the body that goes through the trauma but our brain takes some time to work out what as happened to us.
I went through a period of completely forgetting I had had surgery and I would see my scar and think my goodness that really did happen. The other thing was couldn’t shake that my surgeon had held my heart that really freaked me out. But after a while began to look on it as a huge gift that I had been given.
If you are finding it difficult why not have a word with your GP there is lots of help out there to help you through, just don’t think your the only one that as a few struggles.
Wishing you all the best
Pauline
Completely understand how you feel. I had unexpected open heart surgery 5 weeks ago, so on a slightly different time line to yourself but ended up with a wound infection and back in hospital for 10 days, discharged on Tuesday. I had some tears today, not for the first time I may add! The way I described it to my husband is like a little grey cloud that hangs over me and likes to remind me now and then what’s happened! X
Hi,Yes!!!! Im.only 9 weeks in post heart attack and I'm.very emotional just now. Please be kind to yourself. I'm not going to say this will.pass because that's not what you want to hear!! Your whole life had been turned upside down and everything has changed!!! Its hard dealing with that!!! I really hope you feel better soon.
Thank u 👍
Thank u for reply I had aortic repair and 4x bypass 😩went very well but get these emotional episodes and seem to get more frequent so going to talk to docs I’ll keep u updated 👍
I'm so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. I have my surgery delayed because of lung problems...but I'm finding just accepting my low and scary days, talking about it to just a few close friends...really helps. Keep talking...you are not alone.
My husband was so depressed and frightened for months after his operation. He would burst into tears at the slightest thing. 4 years and a heart attack and stent later hes better at hiding it. He is waiting for MRI as he is very breathless. Covid restrictions have delayed tests and treatment but appointment is 2 July so nearly there. Good luck all and stay safe.
Two years ago after an Nstemi heart attack which led to the discovery of a genetic condition which had caused severe arterial blocking, I had to have emergency triple bypass surgery. After the surgery and a 4 week hospital stay, the shock left me with anxiety and mild ptsd. I also had problems coming to terms with the shock and suddenness of it all and the fact that some of my late close family members who had suffered diabetes or heart problems (which we previously thought may partly be due to lifestyle) had actually unknowingly been suffering from the same genetic disorder. When my GP advised self referral to counselling therapy I took his advice and, despite a wait, I had CBT therapy. This helped but was cut short when my counsellor was ill. I resumed the therapy with a different counsellor via telephone sessions during pandemic which helped such a lot and, even though I still have some days where I feel low or down, I now find myself thinking just how amazing it was that my condition was found and treated by our wonderful Drs, surgeons and Nurses and how lucky and fortunate I am to be here to tell the tale. If you are anxious, speak to your GP who I’m sure will advise you on how to get the best support to help.
I wish you the very best and hope you feel much better soon.
