Dear Grandad911

First of all a big welcome to you here on the forum, I hope that it can help you as much as it has me and many others.

So sorry that you are suffering so with your mental health over {I presume} your diagnosis of a heart problem.

Maybe if you can provide a few more details then others that are stuffing with your condition {heart} maybe able to help you more.

‘Oh the shock that we are not immortal after all’ is one of the biggest wake up calls that our bodies and minds can have. It is only natural to be worried not only for yourself but as I guess by your forum name, your loved ones as well.

But you have to measure how bad that worry is and judging by your brief post, it seems to have started beginning to take over your life.

You have to know first that you are not alone, we are here for you and if possible we will help you along your journey, that at the end of the day only you can take.

This journey will affect your loved ones and this forum maybe able to help them as well.

Your must inform your Dr on how you feel or your heart team if you are at that stage, there is help and you have already started that ball rolling by contacting us.

Take care and please try not to over worry, take small steps and let us {for a change} now hold your hand.

You are now in my thoughts.

Hi Grandad 911? You would be very odd if you didn’t feel the way you do, but the sudden news seems life changing and hopeless, but it’s not. Why do you call your self 911 why let your condition rule you, not everyone is the same I know, but I have AF type 2 diabetes, liver problems, heart disease , and have had a triple bypass.also diagnosed with general Anxiety disorder, all I’m saying is forget about your illness as much as you can, live your life as you like it, not how your illness wants you to live, go out with friends and family as you not you with a heart problem, it’s a nuisance but put it where it belongs, go. Grandad go xxx

Hi , I know how you feel I've been the same for a very long time . I find my anxiety is very much symptom driven & on the days its not I find myself waiting for the symptoms to turn up at some point & I can't win no matter what I do. I wish I could take it away for you ,make sure you push for some help as soon as you can & take care of yourself xx

Suggest that you have your Thyroid checked. It plays a greater role in your mood than you think. When I went on Levothyroxine supplement for my thyroidI went from being depressed about life to positive.

Hi grandad, sorry your not feeling great. I think it’s part of the package after a diagnosis for some of us mate.?You will get back to your self in time although you may not think so at this moment.?

I ended up a terrified depressed worrying mess for 12 months thinking my life is over and this thing is guna end up killing me now Iv been diagnosed with AFIB, episodes were also getting me more often and for longer and I just couldn’t think straight.!

I was sick of getting my funeral plan out and changing my music requests too.

My wife pointed out that AC/DC thunderstruck is not a nice reflection piece.😁

As time went on and I met doctors and went through tests etc and I learned about my condition it slowly started to dawn on me that I was feeling a little better as I went on.

Yes I needed some counselling over months. and I was offered some medication to try for a few months too which did help.

You will get there grandad believe me.👍

That was a few years ago and 3 ablations later combined with a different way of thinking about things, and a very supportive wife😳

You may be feeling down now but you won’t be in time mate.👍

Hope to hear from you in future. Best wishes grandad. Ron.

Hi jetcat. Just jumping in to thank you for your uplifting post. Your description of reviewing your funeral plan made me smile. It reminded me of after my ha and stents I spent too much time browsing mobility aids and thinking about "future proofing" - I was only 56! The mental struggle goes on and I think some support/medication may be the way forward. It was reassuring to hear it helped you.

Best wishes and happy Easter x

AC/DC Thunderstruck is one of my favourite songs for getting me going. It has to be played really loud though. I have asked for the Travelling Willberries Handle Me With Care at my funeral. Grandad, I have no words of advice that are better than anything here already. I try to cheer myself up with humour and watch YouTube for Billy Connolly, old Spike Milligan clips etc. I also turn the news off as the outside world is a depressing place. I hope you find a happy place that you can go to .

Hi Grandad911I hope this helps.

Sometime ago I was told by a stranger I would die at 69. I worried about it for years.

10 years ago I suffered a complete shutdown of the system at 62. they called it Vascular Standstill to those more medically knowledgeable than I am you will probably know what this means In terms of ceasing of your life force. Just to help calm your uncertainty. During this happening I was in a room and thought this is not as bad as I thought it was going to be after a while a voice said “well do you want to go back” I thought for a while and said “yes” but I want 40 years 10 years on I am getting stronger and stronger thank God and will I believe leave here at a 102. Even the state the world is in and has always been it’s still a good place to be. It is up to all-of us to make it better and if you think it all ends here then like a lot of people you are very sadly mistaken. Also by being the way you are you are also putting fear into your children and grandchildren don’t have them end up the same way you are. Everything will be ok see you in 30 years. In the meantime insist your Dr gives you something these pills do work good luck.

Don't mention your mental health too much as that's what the doctors could focus on to the detriment of your physical health. At least that's my experience.
