My tip is don't worry. I had one when I was 4, over 50 years ago (quite rare for children I think) and one last October before heart surgery. It is no more than a bit uncomfortable (they used a vein in my arm last time but groin when a child). I was probably 20 minutes in the room then 30 minutes just resting in a recovery room then pretty much back to normal just waiting for the compression device to be taken off from my wrist (an inflatable band that help is heal and they let air our every 30 minutes). If I hadn't been going for surgery the next day, I could have gone home easily. Take your mobile, they should look after it while you are having the procedure. Hope that helps and reassures
