I have recently submitted my average [over 7 days] blood pressure readings to my GP of 147/78 pulse 66 and he says all is fine, I am 80years old.
But everywhere I read on the internet tells me that these figure are too high.
Who is correct?

From NHS website
As a general guide:
high blood pressure is considered to be 140/90mmHg or higher (or 150/90mmHg or higher if you're over the age of 80)
I would say all is well. Stop reading the internet and put faith in your GP. He knows your medical history. Hope my readings are as good when I reach your age.
Be safe

Mine is often higher than that and I'm 64. I am on blood pressure tablets, however for a few hours after I have taken my tablets it does goes down lower.
I agree with the two previous contributors listen to your doctor. Even the slightest insecurity and stress can raise your BP and HR. if you could stop concentrating on your BP it would more than likely drop below 140. The other reason for your perceived high BP could be the team you support they would be enough to raise the The BP of a dead person. Good luck.
That made me laugh 😂
Glad it cheered you up. We can all have our one minute of fame 😎
R3mi - I've passed caring at the moment, but I have my memories of the 60's etc.
I am in the same boat with my team past caring but not given up good luck with everything
Thanks all for your positive comments, just thought I would ask.
My GP advised looking at trend rather than individual results. If things start changing, that's the time to talk to the doctor.
Many people here would be very happy with your BP, one of the docs on my surgery suggests a target of 150/90 for the >70s, I confess it is easy to obsess over BP but that obsession if translated to anxiety can raise BP, at 80 I would be more than happy with your readings, live long and prosper
Thanks both for encouraging replies.
...and that's the value of being able to air your concerns on this website, I find it all so helpful.
It wasn't long ago that the ideal SBP was 100 + your age, I think at 80 you are doing very well at 147/78 particularly as many GPs reckon that <150/90 for the >70s, live long and prosper ... !
