Hello
I have had high blood pressure since my 30's which is under control now and I am in my 60's it is quite common and the things you can do is cut out salt and eat healthy as well as exercise
However sometimes this is not enough and we do need medication to help bring it down
You have not said how long he has been on the medication ?
It would take a couple of months maybe to see if the dose and what he has been put on is going to work for him but it is very common that what we get started on does not always work and we either need the dose changing or even the medication so if you have any worries him talking to his Doctor would be what you need to do
It is good they have found he has high blood pressure because they will get the right dose and medication and that will bring hs BP down to what it should be
Let us know how you get on x
Your husband's doctor (if he or she is following the pathways recommended by National Institute for Clinical Excellence, NICE) should already have been recommending the diet and lifestyle changes that can be made.
Lots of information on the website of the specialist charity Blood Pressure UK.
I have high blood pressure. I take amlodopine and ramipril to control it. Also regular exercise.
I also have a blood pressure monitor and check my blood pressure at home while sitting quietly once a week.
Modern medicines control it well for most of us.
Don’t ignore it. It’s a silent killer and isn’t that difficult to control
Hi , any context to maybe how/why your hubby has high BP? Any obvious lifestyle factors? Is he sporty , overweight , smoked , excess booze ( above the guidelines) , diet on point etc ?
If your husband is doing the right lifestyle things including diet and salt, exercise, body weight management, alcohol, smoking etc and the medication is not doing its job he should make an appointment with his GP to discuss.

This is an interesting video I saw recently which might help.
Biprosolol is the go to med your Dr will normally prescribe to reduce BP. Various dosages are available dependent on the pressure reqd
