Statin reducing HDL

I wonder if others have experienced a drop in HDL on statins ( in addition to tiny drop in LDL)? I was surprised as I thought taking a statin would only lower the LDL. I have only had 2 months supply of 10 mg over three months ( as stopped because of nightmares but that is better although getting up to urinate 3 times a night not great!). I see my liver scores have changed a little with both serum protein up and albumin over the normal range. I can tell the cardiologist when I get an appointment but other people’s experience would be helpful. Thanks all. Keep safe

I too experienced an unexpected drop in HDL, though it did stay in an acceptable range. My GP was surprised but as the other cholesterol measures (total cholesterol and LDL) were really good, we are continuing my prescribed dosage of 80 mg atorvastatin. No idea why the HDL dropped, though.

Thanks Will. It is a bit odd but my HDL still above the level for good impact. I suppose any drug can be a sledge hammer that manages to hit more than one nut. !

Oh and there is research that suggests HDL over 2.3 not good as HDL begins to act like ldl. So am happy my HDL down to 2.1 but my ldl only went down .6 to 3.2. I am being good on diet but how I miss cheese😀

I miss cheese, too! My total cholesterol dropped to 2.9 and my HDL is now 1.43, which is acceptable. The LDL actually dropped to 1.21, and my GP is really pleased about that. I admit the statin dosage is a bit tough to handle, but so far so good with the results.
