Hi, I am 87 years of age, I eat very clean, I stretch and walk every day, I am a carer to my wife Pammy who suffers from dementia and cannot walk so pushing a wheelchair is a good workout. My pulse is 54 at rest,is this normal ? I haven’t felt well lately, I also have heart disease, Kind Regards Cyril

For your age that's very good I'm 60 mine is 52 so your doing fine only if it get down till low forties would b a bit low
54 is is fine if this is normal for you, if you have noticed a significant drop in resting pulse from your norm, then you should contact your GP.
Hi Rolandi. Firstly, can I say what an inspiration you are. Carers are the unsung heroes of our world. In answer to your question, and as someone else has said, it is not so much whether the figure is normal as whether it is normal for you. If you are taking beta blockers your heart rate will be lowered. Mine is usually about 46 and that seems 'normal' for me. However, as you say you haven't felt well lately, I think a call to your GP would be a good idea. You must look after yourself as well. With all best wishes x
Thank you very much that on its own is an inspiration, we have been married for 65 years. Just love alone keeps me going. I miss my Pammy so much even though she is by my side, that prompted me to write a song called, I Want My Pammy Back. X
Hello Rolandi - If you are at all worried I would check things out with your GP just for your peace of mind. My father died of Alzheimer’s and it’s such a painful thing as you gradually losing the person you love. My heart goes out to you. I hope you are getting help because I know how exhausting it can be. Sending you a virtual hug.
Lovely to hear from you Rolandi. I’m always here if you want to get in touch. I know what you’re going through and it can feel like a dark place but there are always people to help if you need it. You are doing a wonderful thing for the woman you love. Sending you another virtual hug-Clare
Could you share how you "haven't felt well lately"?
A chat with your GP would be a good idea.
Best wishes.
Hi Ling, nice to hear from you, I have been having good and bad days, on the bad days I seem to be panting and feeling drained and tired with a slight headache and very very depressed and it even affects my thinking, today I feel absolutely brilliant and on top of the world. Take care, Kind regards
