I had been suffering from intermittent palpitations and racing heart with exercise so the cardiologist had a monitor fitted for 14 days. The results lead the consultant to diagnose SVT and the recommendation is catheter ablation. I have been told that the procedure has some small associated risks and if things did not go well I would need a pacemaker. If it goes according to plan the condition will be rectified and there is a 95% success rate.
I am interested in comments from anyone who has had this treatment and if it resulted in a cure or any other details regarding side effects. What symptoms there were and how long the recovery was. The consultant has also recommended I have an implanted loop records to check progress. So was also wondering if there are any comments on this as well.

Hi, I had catheter ablation for my ectopics and slow heartbeat last october and it was a complete success despite having 74% chance of working. I am now having ablation for my SVT in 4 weeks time. The procedure is exactly the same and I have no concerns at all. It was a relaxing 4 hours under mild sedation. I found it quite interesting to listen to them operating the computers as if they were playing star wars. There are risks in all operations but ablations are so commonplace with very little evidence i could find of problems other than a failure to correct the problem. Have no knowledge of loops. Good luck with your procedure.
Thank you very much for the reply. This is encouraging news for sure and puts my mind at rest. Good luck with the next procedure I hope the outcome is a good as the last
Hi, did you have the ablation yet? I was diagnosed with SVT in February during labour, I was induced as was overdue and believe the drug triggered my SVT episode. I’ve since met a consultant today and we discussed options, one was putting me on waiting list for ablation. I’m afraid of the risks, the 1 in 300 might need pacemaker & 1 in 1000 potential stroke. Wondered how yours went & were you offered to wean off your medication while you waited?
