No you are not being lazy, 6 weeks post heart attack and stents fitted isn’t very long you are still building your stamina back to where it should be. Spring is on it’s way so you should be able to get out more in the fresh air. From what you say you are doing it sounds good. You are the only one that can say if you are doing enough, listen to your body. After my OHS I started power walking, one day I was heading home along a flat bit, thought your doing really well ( 70) at the time. When a young woman passed me power walking as if I was standing still 😩 got home so down, my husband said you are probably twice her age! are you doing better than when you first started and the answer was yes, so just kept at it😂
You will get there just keep going.
Best wishes Pauline
Don't push yourself too hard. You are doing an amazing amount as it is. As Pauline said, listen to your body. It's a good thing to try to walk every day, but take it steady. Does your cardio team give you any guidance?
You are doing fine. I did a half marathon in under 2 hours, 4 days before my unexpected heart attack. I'm on medication only, not stented. When I came outof hospital I could barely walk round the block. It has taken me 18 months to run another half marathon that took me 2 hours 30 minutes. But it was a long process for me so by the sounds of it you are on the journey. Keep it up AND listen to your body.
If you feel tired, maybe you're not having enough good rests in between your activities! I found I needed an hour or two with my feet up to recover from a walk or exercise, so make sure you factor this in. Regarding your walks, you could try going a little further each week, maybe an extra 5 mins or so - that way you will be building up your stamina and strength, and feel you are making progress. The BHF have some good exercises on YouTube which can help with your upper body. But as everyone else has said, you're already doing great and you need to be kind to yourself!! Keep up the good work x
Listen to your body and you will gradually increase your stamina it can be frustrating and seem to take forever but you will get there, good luck.
Hi Pammy124prms! Two bits of advice I have been given have been very helpful: listen to your body, and be patient and kind to yourself. It doesn’t sound to me that you’re lazy!!It’s great if you can get into a bit of a routine getting up and dressed, making breakfast, housework. But then maybe some days you’ll be up for doing more, and other days you might need a bit of a rest. And that’s ok :)I try and listen to what my body is saying - I go for a walk most days, some days its 2km and others it is 6 or 7km (tbh much of it seems weather dependent - who wants to do a long walk in the cold/wind!) and some days I do the BHF cardiac rehab videos on YouTube (working my way up the levels as per my cardiac rehab team).
I’d agree with others - if you can get out for a walk every day that’s great - try and slowly increase time/distance every week. Or if you did three days walking this week, aim for four next week.
Having said all that, if you’re getting a good night’s sleep, eating well, and still not seeing any improvement then speak to your GP - could be related to medication, iron levels.
But I think you’re doing great, and just go easy on yourself!
Seems like a sensible regime to me you will know when you can do more, importantly you’re thinking about it 👍
