Your medication has been reviewed at the Surgery and, as you are taking both Ticagrelor and Aspirin, we have issued a new medication to protect your stomach (Lansoprazole). This should be taken whilst you are on both of these medicines. on is this the normal?

Hey Mark my stomach seems to be different all the time. Sometimes bad indigestion, burning and time to time feels like a heart attack but a good belch and wind clear it.To be honest GERD has been the worst part of post HA.

I’ve been back to the doctors and he just offered some Peptac liquid.

It’s good to talk to someone in the same boat as I feel people don’t really get it.

Take it easy

Neil

Hi Neil Yes I know what you mean & my doc never really seems to bothered about it , but it does seem like a wind issue as when a get cramps for a few seconds then shortly after I belch a few times & it’s gone , it’s just annoying & embarrassing, thanks for the reply I thought it was just me

Cheers Mark

My husband has just received the same. Doesnt have stomach problems fortunately but cant take 5 steps without gasping for breath. HA 28/12/2019 just prior to covid chaos so not seen consultants since. Tele cons only. Was promised face to face appointment this April now been told another tele con in July. He cant go on. Its desperate.

Hi.Has your husband tried contacting his consultant? I find if I phone my Consultant's secretary she is really good and helpful. Try phoning and explaining what you have just told us in your message. At least he can get some advice as to what to do.

I've been lucky as I have got to see my GP face to face after a telephone call. Plus still getting my scans and Consultant appointments all through the pandemic.

Do keep trying, surely if he is that bad, they will see him?

Best wishes

Denise

Yes, taking a PPI like lansoprazole with these medications is normal. My understanding would be that NOT having been on one from the outset is the only abnormal thing, here.

My husband has been prescribed meds similar to lansoprazole out of the blue to protect his stomach due to cardiac and pain meds he is taking regularly, it looks like it a new protocol medics are initiating.

Not so new, I had my HA in 2015 2 stents and been on lanzoprazol evwr since, I take Avostatin and asprinHowever in 2017 after getting lots of stomach issues, I finally pre covid was diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis, never had any stomach problems before HA

Hi SJ66 my HA sept 2020 . Usual meds abd Lansoprazole. Have had uncontrollable diarrhoea since middle if October 2020. Told everyone who would listen. No answers. Finally about one month ago I was taken off statin because if enzymes in muscles and severe muscle wastage ( I’d lost over 2 stone in weight)

I thought that would end the runs. It it didn’t.

Last week a blood test came back with a higher than normal level - something in the bowel - suggestive if either ulcerative colitis or chrones.

Ive never had a digestive problem in my life.

I got reading once again the contraindications of my meds.

Lansoprazole can ( in rare cases) cause ulcerative colitis. !!!!

Doctor had taken me off them until I can see gastro enteroligist.

When might that be?

So it’s ok now is it to take Prasugrel without stomach protection? Is it ok to risk stomach ulcer now?

This has been a year when I have asked for help from every one , cardiologist doctor pharmacist Heart failure clinic. Not one if them took any interest in why someone could loose weight have constant runs . Only the muscle wastage prompted action.

According to my GP, these medicines (PPI's) are an insurance policy, they do not actually do anything for people who are on Aspirin and so on. If you did happen to get a stomach ulcer that burst, they just reduce the risk of bleeding by reducing the amount of acid in your stomach. For me, and many others I think, Lanzoprazole will go through you like a hurricane, so if you enjoy meditating in a small room then these are the one's for you. I was switched to Omeprazole which I have discovered gives me headaches all the time, so I have now taken the decision to cease PPI's altogether and feel way better for it. I believe they are useful for people who suffer from acid reflux however, in case you do. My GP was quite happy when I informed him I was not going to take them any more.

I was given the same medication after my HA and stent but after one month stopped lansoprazole as this was making me feel sick and lethargic all the time. GP said this was common and as long as I had no stomach issues then not needed. As always speak with GP before changing

Stay Safe

Yes evryone who takes your meds is given something to protect they stomach; usually omeprazole. I'm allergic to PPIs so I take Famotodine instead. If I don't I get dreadful upper stomach pain from the aspirin. I had to stop taking Ticagrelor early because of the stomach pain.

Hi I started off with ticarelor and aspirin was changed to clopidigrel as had problems with ticarelor and was put on lansoprazole from day one as a protective measure I was assured by the hospital that it is totally usual

I have been on Lansoprazole as an antacid type of medication for quite a while. My medication combination had an acidic base and may have caused heartburn and other symptoms. The Lansoprazole deals with it effectively.

I take Ticagrelor and Aspirin and have also had lansoprazole from the start after a STEMI in April. As I understand it the aspirin in particular can irritate the stomach lining so the lansoprazole is to protect it. You’re supposed to take it at least 30 minutes before eating so I take it when I first wake up then have the aspirin after eating breakfast.
