Do you have constant low level back pain at the bottom of your back?

I’m on 5 different drugs and wondering if any of them likely causing low level back pain? The drugs are Candesartan, Asprin, Prasugrel, Bisoprolol and Pravastatin. When on so many drugs it’s difficult to know which one it might be.

I am on a similar, but different, combination of drugs. The only one known for causing aches and pains, although nothing like the frequency the interweb would have you believe, are statins. However they are usually muscle aches most frequently in the legs but sometimes in the arms and/or shoulders.

I have suffered lower back pain and only got to know the real cause when I had an MRI scan which showed L4 and L5 to be prolapsed. A blood test for kidney function is worthwhile to eliminate this as a potential cause.

I agree with Michael. It may be worth requesting a kidney function test as you are on Candesartan. Statin aches tend to be in limbs.

Hi Willowman. I suffer from constant lower back pain and have done for years. Been to physiotherapist and had an mri. A couple of my disks were damaged through wear and tear. She said the only thing is exercise to strengthen the back. When I did them regularly it definately helped. Unfortunately I’ve been slacking for months and it’s flared up again so need to discipline myself to do them again. I’m also on medication following a stent in September and I did wonder if any of the meds ie the statin was making it worse but I think it’s just my backs got weak again.

Hi Wilowman, I have back pain, and like you I take a lot of medication. My GP changed them I am wondering if that too was the cause. We reduced my 10mg Bisoprol to 7.5mg on 10 Feb to see if there is any relation there. I used to take atenolol 50mg but they asked me to, changed to Bisoprol. I also take Rosuvastatin, Amlodipine, Clopdigrel ,Bendroflmethiazide, Tamsulosin, Lansoprazole, Perindipril. I am not worth two Bob now. Constantly fatigued, muscle in legs are painful. I feel as I'm being pulled back everytime I try to exercise. I have never felt so knackered. I'm 63 but feel like 93. It may the meds. Hope you get it sorted...

I too have low back pain except it's far from low level. This past 2 weeks it's been so bad I haven't been able to even stand up. There are literally dozens of possible causes and it can be extremely difficult to diagnose. Often it's prolapsed disc, often it's muscular in the deep pelvic muscles which can only be treated by a skilled osteopath. Bursitis or muscle spasm can cause low back pain. I'm still undergoing diagnosis but in my case it's suspected to be piriformis syndrome. The piriformis muscle goes from your spine to the outside of the femur and as well as low back pain, shoots pain down the outside of the leg. It's often misdiagnosed as sciatica in which case treatments don't work. The psoas muscle can do similar.The only suspect medication you mention is statins but they usually affect muscles only causing aches rather than pain. I suggest you get this properly looked at; maybe see an osteopath or a physio first who are better at diagnosing than GPs who will only give painkillers and ignore the root cause. Sitting more than usual can badly affect your lower back. IT can be a battle to get a diagnosis. Over 20 years ago I was in excruciating pain. but it took 10 years to get a diagnosis. When i finally did,he pain consultant said "If this had been found 10 years ago I could have operated to release a trapped nerve. Sadly the nerve is now permanently damaged and i's too late to do anything." SO I now live with that pain for life. Don't ignore it. It may bee just muscular but it needs proper diagnosis and treatment.

Hi willowman, I'm very new to this forum but if you haven't been on statins very long or have recently changed from say Alvostatin to another and started developing pain in your lower back, lower legs then the first thing I would do is get a telephone consultation with your gp or lipids consultant as this is something they do warn you about and can be quite serious. If all is OK in relation to your medication and its not the problem then I would again visit your doctor as they will be able to refer you for an MRI if needed, for physio, to a neorosurgeon, pain clinic. I have struggled with my back for what now feels like a lifetime 🙁 I have had the spinal surgeries x2, caudi equi syndrome and if It is your back, as long as you are not struggling to go to the toilet 'push to wee or loose control' numbness around your bottom front and back and can manage your pain, then try and keep moving and only if you have exhausted every option to you think about spinal surgery if it is severe

Hi I’m on 3 different medications one of which is Bisoprolol and my issue is headaches. Think this pain should be discussed with your GP.
