Well it's a week on from my birthday so I have now started to think about Christmas a fortnight away. I was wondering what people's favourite Christmas song was. As a Chris Rea fan mine is:
Has to be a toss up between Driving home for Christmas (being a Teesside lad) and the fairytale of New York. Happy Birthday Michael and Merry Christmas everyone. As kids we were always woken by Mario Lanza's Christmas album playing.
Happy belated birthday Michael it was my birthday last week as well!! My favourite Christmas song is Fairy Tale of New York by the Pogues as well as Johnny Mathis A Ray Of Hope
Happy belated birthday Michael. Well there are too many favourite Christmas songs to choose from. But got to be slade, mud, Pogues, east 17, just to name a few.
Carol of the bells. It is a tune that gets into your head and takes a great deal of getting out again. Happy birthday Michael. In the words of the ancient toast " Here's to us and all like us, and who are they? damn few".
When our children were very young we used to go carol singing around old folks homes with a group from church. The kids hated it and the only thing that would persuade them to join in was the promise that we would play Mr Blobby very loudly, between venues, with the car windows wound down.
We arrived at one home during Coronation Street which didn’t go down well so we sang Ding Dong Merrily on High to the budgie.
Favourite Christmas song is probably Fairytale of New York though Mr Blobby alway makes me smile.
😂😂!!! Got to be Fairytale in New York. Great fan of the lovely but late Kirsty McColl but also a huge fan of Chris Rea. Happy birthday for whenever it is xxxx
The most moving thing I ever heard was when I took my son to Eurodisney the week before Christmas. As we sat on the pavement watching the parade, Silent Night started to play and every single child joined in. There were voices singing in English, German, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, Japanese, Chinese, you name the language, you could hear it. Just to hear so many nationalities come together to sing the same carol was incredible.
Wonderful! Reminds me many years ago as a young soldier in Germany a group of us on a snowy Xmas eve went into a German pub and were directed into a small room on our own. After a couple of drinks, we got melancholy and started to sing Xmas carols and when we were singing Silent Night the landlady brought candles in and switched off the lights .... in the next room the Germans started to sing it too. Was lovely. 😀
In the bleak mid winter by Sissal. In fact any song by her, once played never forgotten. Beautiful singer especially when singing with any of the tenors.
A belated Happy Birthday to you, Michael, I hope you got cake!
As for my personal favourite Christmas song, it's O' Little Town Of Bethlehem.
Erm, followed closely by the Pogues, and a wee giggle tune from the States titled 'Granma Got Run Over By A Reindeer'.
My late MILs were both lovely ladies and I hope my children's spouses feel the same about me but that song is a must-play for my scattered family (UK and US) during every Skype Christmas. We all fall about laughing and singing along. (I wonder what that says about our sense of humour!)
