What does ectopic feel like

Hi, noticed a few ectopic posts on here , I think I have them albeit like 1-3 a day and not every day.

Just wanted people who suffer regular beats to describe them so I know if mine are similar??? So mine seem very powerful aggressive beats! Also like an electric shock feeling? I feel down arms also sometimes feel like a zap in my face, jaw line where carotid artery’s are???

I know there’s probably loads of different types but does this sound like them? I had one 24 heart monitor few months back and I went for a run and on recovery I had a few that I felt and the results picked them up but they weren’t the aggressive zapping ones I get when in bed or driving etc

Any info would be great

I have ectopics, but as you say people experience them in different ways and I really don't think it's going to set your mind at rest to take a poll of experiences. As you are still worrying about them, especially as you say you are experiencing this sensation whilst driving, go back to your GP and ask for a cardiology referral.

Yea Ive been to 3 cardiologist finally got one that will actually pay attention, on my 24hr monitor he saw a few ectopic beats but I kept calling them palpitations and he called them ectopic so was confused which is which? The small missed or added beats I can handle but I get the occasional whopper that feels like I’ve been struck by lightning so assumed this was ectopic?

Same thing really I think. The missed/delayed beats can give the sensation of palpitations. Have a look on the British Hear Foundation website they have a article on ectopics and palpitations which explain them.Go back to your GP you need peace of mind.

Hi Dazgad

Sorry to hear about these problems. I have had what the doctors diagnosed as ectopic beats for about 20 years, but what you have described seems far more severe than anything I experienced. Mine seemed like missed beats, and they certainly were not pleasant and made me feel ill, a bit sick. It took them ages to catch examples of the my problems too.

Your description is in a totally different league and I suggest you need to see a cardiologist as soon as you can even though you had a check up a little while ago. If you can go straight back to your specialist, do so; if not go to your GP and describe what you have written here.

Please don't delay.

Good luck

Henry

I have ventricular ectopics for which I take 2.5 mg bisoprolol which really helps.Sometimes mine feel like I've been thumped in the chest and sometimes I just feel a fluttering for a few seconds.

Yours sound different from mine - maybe you need a 7 day monitor to pick up those electric shock like ones.

I have what I call easy ones, jolt feels like missed beat and then totally scary ones that wake me up just as I'm going to sleep.

Not what you're looking for?
