Husband has been home 2 weeks since AVR and bypass. Has often felt lightheaded in the loo, but in the last 24 hours has had 2 episodes of collapsing (and then vomiting) after peeing.
111 doc was not especially worried, but is this common??
TIA

Hello, I had my own AVR and aortic graft in December 2019. I do not know if the symptoms your husband has are common, I do know that I suffered from a similar thing. Prior to my operation I was very active and always had a low heart rate. In my own case the prescribed Bisoprolol I was taking was sending my heart rate too low. I had to be very careful standing up from seated. Similarly, though not a nice subject I found I would get light headed when straining on the toilet. I had a couple of occasions when I was violently sick. A friend who is a senior nurse said this was common after this type of procedure. Things did settle down after time. I found that I almost had to do things in slow motion if I had been seated for a prolonged time. Move to edge of chair, pause, breath, slowly stand up, pause, breath, then start moving. I found that self monitoring my blood pressure and heart rate helped to reassure me at times. I know personally how terrifying this type of episode can be, as naturally after such major surgery any slight ‘blip’ tends to make you worry. 2 weeks after surgery is very early days, as the body is using all its resources to heal. Good luck with your progress.
