I’ll be having a dual chamber pacemaker fitted in November 25th as I have very recently found out I have tachy brady syndrome. My father in law has a pacemaker and he was telling me that he has something plugged into his bedroom that is connected with his pacemaker and asked me if I’ll have one of these too, i haven’t got a clue and this is all very new and unexpected so if anyone can shed some light on this I’d be most grateful

Type of pacemaker
It will be a remote monitoring unit which sends his pm info to the hospital, not all pm's are that type. I have a dual chamber but not set up for remote monitoring.
I was given a device something like a telephone soon after I had my first pacemaker, as I continued to be unwell. I could make it send a report to the hospital if I was concerned. This was only because I also had atrial fibrillation and my partner was working away. Since having my new CRT pacemaker (3 leads instead of 2), I have an app on my phone that links by Bluetooth to the pacemaker and the hospital can automatically request a report from it. This meant I didn’t need to go to hospital for a 6 month check. If I wanted to, I could also send a report myself. I was told that some people have to have a physical device rather than an app. I find it reassuring to be linked up in this way.
Hi there. My husband had a PM fitted in June and yes we have a remote monitoring unit in the bedroom. I believe it connects every night. It is obviously set to flag any problems as we have several calls from the monitoring team advising when he has suffered sustained vts.
Good luck.
I also have a dual chamber pacemaker. I've had it for ten and a half years now. I used to go to the hospital to get it read. But I now have a "MyCareLink" at home that I use once a month to send reports to the hospital. I can also send a quick report any time I feel unwell and get a callback to let me know the result...I still have yearly review/check at the hospital.
I used to pass out a lot but the pacemaker has made a difference and improved my quality of life. Best wishes and hope all goes well for you!
