I would be grateful for some advice... I am 6 0 year old female, had H.A. and stent procedure in late March this year.....I was on Bisoprolol 2.5 mgs beta blockers, they were leaving me very tired and I had a resting heart rate between 46 and 52, the cardiologist stopped them a week ago,I feel fine but noticed my resting heart rate between 54 and 58 bpm. I also noticed that when I walk fast or do tread mill my maximum heart goes up to 130bpm and into maybe 90 minutes of cardio zone on my fitbit..... Maybe its me being anxious, but is this normal heart rate or do I need beta blockers to slow it down. I feel much better not taking them, more energy ,but just abit worried.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.....

Yes they say resting heart rate is between 60 and 100, but of course this all varies to medication etc, and your cardiologist can monitor this. I had an emergency triple bypass and a stent end of March, and I am still working out my tablets to get the right mix.
I was very anxious after the op, so I am only just realising that I need to keep taking the tablets, and hopefully get the right balance.
Yip Baz51 so confusing trying to get it right and at the same time doing the best we can to look after ourselves!!!! Thanks for your reply, good luck n take care .
I'm somewhat surprised that your Cardiologist did not lower the Bisoprolol dose to 1.25mg rather than stopping it as there are benefits to taking a beta blocker other than just lowering pulse rate. Anyway, you seem to be doing well without it with a resting heart rate similar to many athletes! Incidentally, my resting BP is usually 52-58bpm and I take 1.25mg of Bisoprolol.
As for a rate of 130bpm when exercising, this was the level that I reached during rehab exercises, after which they would not release us to go home until the rate had lowered to 90bpm. I don't have any issues with these levels. However, it does take hard exercise to reach 130bpm. My preferred method of exercise, hill walking, normally only takes it up to around 110bpm. Others may be able to give you their experiences, but we are all different and there will be no specific figure for what is normal.
I wouldn't be anxious about the heart rate you are experiencing if you feel okay. In some ways constant monitoring can be counter-productive, your Fitbit serving as a "worry gauge".
Hi GWP1952, I agree wee all different!!!but when I was told to stop taking the beta blockers I had to ask twice,I too thought he would've reduced them, but I feel more energetic and need to remind myself to slow down at times,I was always active,so making these changes can be difficult, good luck and keep fit!!!!thank you for reply.
Hi Sunny. I was 56 when I had my HA & stent 2 years ago. Those heart rates sound within normal limits to me. I was on 5mg Bisoprolol which took my resting HR below 40, but I have an ICD whose pacemaker kicks in at 40. I changed to Carvedilol and my resting HR is now around 48-56. If I walk uphill it will often go up to 130s, or 140s if it's steep!
Do you have a Heart Failure Nurse or Cardiac Rehab team? They will be able to reassure you. If not, try to have another chat with your cardiologist (probably easier said than done!). xx
