I truly do not understand all the anti-mask protests, I truly do not. I don't understand wearing the masks incorrectly - if I see one more covididiot with the mask under their nose, or adjusting the mask by pushing it back up with their hands all over the potentially contaminated front and then touch a door or tomato or...grrr!

I do not nor will I ever understand the selfishness required to ignore public health.

I think Lorraine Kelly said it best - this afternoon I read a retort from Lorraine Kelly to the anti-maskers that they should go have a look at Kate Garraway's husband still in hospital trying to recover (he's said to be struggling, the virus has left him with several conditions he did not have prior to contracting Covid-19 six months ago).

It's an ad for Fosters lager. The strange thing both Fosters and XXXX taste better in Oz!

It’s just selfishness. They should have a think about what it’s like for us key workers, particularly those of us with underlying conditions, having to serve hundreds of customers day in day out. They probably only come into close proximity with a few people each day if that. This mask wearing won’t be forever.

It's the same as a lot of things these days, we are too soft on these people. Just fine a few of them £500 or more and make it very well known that it is happening, and the anti-brigade will give up. It is the same "rights" brigade who prevented us having a proper ID card system that would have been so very useful right now.

Masks are not effective at keeping the virus out but they do prevent the spread through large droplets from coughs and sneezes.

The virus is so small it easily passes through the material of masks, but in any case most of the air we breathe in whilst wearing a mask comes in through the sides and gaps around the nose, but I guess they are a good visual reminder of the precautions we must take.

Just keep away from confined spaces and unventilated areas.

Good luck

We need to remember that some people can't wear a mask, otherwise I agree we should wear one, even though the science is not 100% for or against. My biggest concern is that some people think wearing a mask makes them invincible it doesn't .

Hands Space is not open to debate !!!

I’m still not sure who is entitled not to wear a mask. My daughter, who is asthmatic, wears PPE all day without bother so asthma is a poor excuse. I accept if you have thalidomide and therefore no arms it might be difficult. There are far too many people about who think the world revolves around them and have no thought for anyone else.

I become very breathless and really struggle if I wear a paper or material mask when walking. I have to use a face shield and only put the paper or material mask on in confined spaces or when in close contact with someone and I am not walking any distance.

I have no argument with anyone who is doing their best to comply with the mask rule. Thank you for doing what you can.

I was out this morning and had a doctors appointment. So many people sitting in the waiting room with chin warmers on, honestly don’t know why they bother at all. 1 lady in the waiting room removed her chin warmer from her chin to cough.... I understand completely about those exempt as my youngest has autism (although he does wear them due to the fear factor.. he just doesn’t like to and doesn’t have to as exempt) but if you are going to wear one and then just use it to keep your chin warm why bother lol 😂

As someone who has struggled with a mask - having both asthma & copd - I did get a "mask exempt" badge via an acknowledged Charity. Yes I have been out but have never been challenged as to the reasons why I have the "exemption" but can say I will not step foot inside the major supermarkets because of how others behave. I have now obtained a faceshield - visor - which is a lot easier for me. I do know of quite a few who have just downloaded the "mask exempt" signs that are common and think it is a lot of these who cause all the problems.

Like a lot of things the Government have only caused more confusion because they have not clarified matters properly. They started off with all good intentions but now come across as weak and ineffective.

My view and it's only my personal view is that if you are exempt then just wear a visor and this will make people around an individual feel a little more comfortable. Coincidentally, isn't it strange that we can now stand in the bank while people are in there wearing masks 🤣🤣 and not feel as though we are in a hold up. 😂

In fact, lucky to find a bank at all 😄

It's not only the anti-maskers that annoy me, it's those who think Covid19 is a hoax....those people could do with a touch of Covid 19 to wake them up.

The kind of masks worn by HCP do give protection. They prevent inhalation and direct exposure to large expelled droplets. As has been said, in the general population it mainly prevents others contracting it from the mask wearer.

My clinic provides us with covid masks as they don't think the wee blue paper ones are up to much, they are really thick white ones and the elastic goes round your head, makes me look like a cross between a poodle and a spaniel!, but the fit is really snug and they are so thick I doubt anything would get through them, they give us fresh ones every time we are there, and a row if you turn up with a blue one 😂😷char

Hi it also makes me angry that the people walking about without face coverings don't seem to give a dam, my wife has fibromyalgia and has a weak immune system and also has a high risk of catching anything that's going around myself in the last five years have battled cancer blood clots in both lung's and heart failure, from the time we leave home untill the time we return we always have our mask's on and a spare one in our bags, but I can't believe some of the reason's that people give for not wearing one, the best two I have heard are. A couple of weeks ago we were on a bus going shopping a young lady a the back was approached by the inspector for not wearing a face covering she said that if she wore a mask people would not see how well she did her make-up,my wife and i just looked at each other speach less, the other was on the same day we were walking through our local shopping centre where a guy had been stopped by the security guard as he had a mask on but it was on his chin, his reply was I am wearing a mask no one said were I had to wear it. Just thought I would share.

When I go to the supermarket I find it difficult to remain conscious and on my hind legs, even without a mask.

Perhaps I could revert to using my power chair?

If masks work ..... why do we need other restrictions eh?

Clearly they are a placebo - as if a 50p piece of Chinese paper is going to protect you from the most dangerous virus know to man since .... the last one.

Hi all, just wanted to add a different perspective. If I wear a mask (and believe me I have tried all types) my oxygen and carbon dioxide get so imbalanced that I feel dizzy and bang into things. I ended up needing a first-aider in a department store recently after a head injury and nearly ended up in A&E. So I was told I should ask my GP for a medical exemption letter, which I did & he agreed. He said I was not the only one to feel faint and dizzy wearing a mask. However NOT wearing a mask I then feared people looking at me with disdain and anger, and I found it so stressful going round a supermarket without one that I wore it and felt ill. The GP practice nurse said I could get a label to wear, saying I am exempt from wearing a mask, which I now do and try to make it visible and I have my GP letter with me. However I still find it stressful to not wear one: a woman in Tesco recently gave me her very vocal rage and it felt horrible. So it is very stressful NOT to wear one because of the assumptions others make. When I shop I try to be quick, give people a wide berth and not open my mouth. I do my best.

If the same lack of discipline we see now was allowed during the war then we would have lost it

Hi all, just sharing this page on masks again. It does cover a lot of the issues mentioned in this thread, including when people may be exempt. bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...

I realise there will be lots of differing opinions but I think due to the number of reports, this thread probably isn't helpful so we'll be turning off comments. Thanks all.
