Started getting pain in my chest during the night

Only possibly over the last couple of weeks I’ve had some pretty strong chest pains during the night, it obviously wakes me up, gets to the point I’m really starting to worry then after a while it goes away.

I’ve had more of an ache before during the night but this is much more.

I still cannot speak or have any communication with my cardiologist, hopefully speaking to my Gp today, I left a message yesterday I wanted to speak to him.

Don’t know why really but just have a bit of a wobbly chin today, I should just put my big girl pants on and get on with it as there’s some amazing brave people on here that have just been through so much.

Big hug to all of you on this forum. 🤗

I had a day of pains on Monday and have been woken several times in the past few months, not by pain specifically but rather a strange feeling that seems to take over my whole body. Fortunately, the pain has now stopped but I was so scared I re-wrote my will.

I must admit I was thinking, what can I quickly put together to take to the hospital with me ? I think because it’s likely to be your heart it makes it all the more frightening doesn’t it so understand completely the ‘will thoughts’ look after yourself 😊

It does help to have the will written (and updated as needed), and a 'go-bag' in the hall press just-in-case. Peace of mind when you know you're prepared for any unexpected events.

Getting through the first year or so of having any 'chronic' heart condition is not easy at all and you're only in the first few months of knowing you have a complex pair of conditions that frankly not enough cardiologists are well-versed in. I'm so glad you're here on the forum and can avail yourself of Milkfairy's excellent coaching!

I have my hospital bag always packed and ready to go.

Admission plan, latest clinic letters and medications included.

Will all done!

I'm such a preparedness nut I have a print-out sheet for my husband to use 'in-case', listing all my passwords so he can go in and update if I'm seriously unwell (or close accounts if, well, you know).

I'd be embarrassed by that but I have had some online friends suddenly drop off forums and later discovered they were either quite seriously unwell, or well, you know.

Hope you get some reassurance or guidance from your GP today. You must be tired being woken up during the night with the pains which doesn't help. You don't need to just 'get on with it', people on here will understand your concerns and it's good that you have posted so that we can give you some virtual support🤗. Hope you feel better as the day progresses let us know how you get on.

Hi Fluffybee, I am sorry to hear that you are getting these nighttime pains.

Have you tried sleeping with more pillows so that your body is elevated a bit at the head and chest end.

It works for me but we are all different.

Of course I am hoping you get a call today with something more reassuring from the GP.

You won't be feeling like skipping along on your walk until this is sorted so I shall be missing my virtual walking buddy.

Please let us know how you get on.

Sending hugs

Ellie

Hi Fluffybee,

Don't be hard on yourself. It's frustrating as hell let's be honest! 😊❤

You've got to let your emotions out somehow - better to wobble along with us than wobble on your own!

Some days your big girl pants aren't quite as strong as you'd like them to be. Mine quite literally aren't! 🙊

Be kind to yourself sending you hugs. Hope they come back to you with some answers xx

I also get woken at night too.

Somehow it seems to be worse at night in the quiet.....

If you are still experiencing pain I would keep telling your GP.

There are other medications that can be tried.

My vasospasms are stubbornly refusing to be responsive to the medication.

I slapp on my TENS machine like the ones women use in labour .

I put my pads on my back rather than chest .

2 hot water bottles and listen to calming music.

You can't control your pain but you can learn to manage your emotional response to your pain.

I found the skills of Cognitive behavioural therapy and Mindfulness meditation as well as my pacing with spoons helpful.

These I learnt at a Pain Management Programme and I suggest you ask your GP to refer you to a Pain Management specialist.

There are some online apps that can help too.

Can totally understand the “will “ moment ....I wrote a long letter to my son and put it with mine after being told I had a heart issue etc ....one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I’ve been working my way through the house tidying and cleaning incase the worst happens , I said to a friend “ if I keel over I don’t want anyone thinking I was a dirty cow!” The things your brain goes through , haha . I’d let the GP know if the night time pain is something new, hope you get it sorted soon .

I must admit that I make sure everything is sorted clean and in its place before bed, I know it sounds daft but I cannot help it ‘just in case’ think it’s a bit of OCD creeping in but feel if o do it I’ll be ok 🥴
