I should restart walking physio later today. As it will be limited initially we have been trying to think of something different. I have seen an exercise bike in the dining room so suggested I give it a go. They have never had a cycling amputee but my physios do not see why not. It has to be cleared with the Head of Physio but I feel up to the challenge. More later...

Stationary cycling sounds just the thing - less weight-bearing on the incision while still getting you exercise. Win-win, I hope it's approved (can't see why it wouldn't be).

Good idea! I also love exercise bikes in fitness. This is a very useful tool for the entire muscle group. I have been doing fitness at home for a long time and very rarely go to the gym, since home loads are quite enough to keep in shape, especially if there is a Bicycle or a treadmill. I have both at home, so it allows me to train without going out. Recently bought and calibrate.fitness/cubii-jr-... and was even more satisfied. Keep working on your body, girls

It sounds like a great idea.

Let's hope you get the physio support you need.

I did walking physio before lunch and the had lunch in the patients' dining room which because of CovID is limited to two patients. It was the first time I had eaten at a proper table for eight weeks - definitely a very pleasant change.

After a short rest I went for the exercise bike as they had been given the OK. On their default settings I did 5.5 km which is an amputee record for the unit as it has never been done before. Apparently it is quite a bit more than most manage with two legs! 💪🚲🎖️

Way to go, congratulations you must be so thrilled. How’s the wound? hope it’s holding up.

Have a nice rest this afternoon, you deserve it. 💪

The wound held up fine through forwards, backwards and sideways walking but it was stopped there as a precaution...

Good that they are watching you very carefully, glad to read it held up through your walking. You will get there, you are a force of nature 💪

Part of Chris Froome's recovery from last year's injury involved using a stationary bike, with his good leg.

They'll be rewriting the recovery book with you in there Michael!

I did 5.7km the other day beating the previous record of 5.6km - all rides are logged. My intention was to go for 6km but there is now disagreement about amputees cycling. Pity as I felt that cardio was beneficial for my ❤️ and circulation in 🦵!

It turns out there is an amputee support group in memory of Douglas Bader. It has a Team Bader (Cycling).

Hi Michael I hope your wound is healing now and there are no more infections. It sounds as if your eager to get going with this physio lark, don't do too much too soon. Good luck, take care.

The area that needs care is the wound on the stump so I am off walking with the ill fitting temporary leg but all other exercise is fine and even essential. 🚴 but NOT 🏃!
