I have chronic anxiety and have just been diagnosed with lung cancer in the early stages, for which I will be having surgery. I have smoked all my life and am finding it very difficult to give up due to my anxiety although I am down to about 6 or 7 a day. I was on Lisinopril but It gave me Angiodema which one night closed off my throat and stopped my breathing. This has now been changed to Losartan, initially at 50mg to make sure there were no bad side effects and recently increased to 100mg. I have had a PET scan and have many tests coming up prior to surgery, which is affecting my anxiety levels. I am 75 and as my GP says have a lot on my plate at the moment.

Old age does not come alone
Yea, I'm 75 too and life can be pretty grim on occasions in old age; but at the end of the day it's all up to you to take care of number one and that means, don't ever give up. When your way-down at your lowest there's only one way and that's up. Good luck.
You certainly do have a lot on your plate and a lot to worry about. But do try and relax...save your energy for the challenges ahead of you. I know it can be easier said than done!
I just searched Health Unlocked and there are some interesting posts on others like yourself, facing lung cancer and it’s treatments, how to stop smoking etc, as well as some fascinating up-to-date research summaries.
Some good work being done,
You might have already had a look?
Hello
Not quite at 75 but 73 next month and I don't think this is Old Age !!
I don't think there has been a generation like ours with all the medical advances to keep us well into our later years. Also I don't think there has been a generation as well housed and fed as ours has been.
OK it's difficult at times, but we are still here discussing life . I always try to remember Old Age is something not everyone Achieves so I am grateful for what I have, even with Heart Failure I am grateful.
Mind you I do whinge and shout at the telly when things are happening that I don't agree with, and with ageing that happens more and more LOL
Wish you well with stopping smoking and having a good outcome from your treatment.
Stay well Stay Safe
Out of curiosity where is the photo taken looks like the Portsmouth forts in the background !!
No it was taken some years ago going by boat from Torquay to Dartmouth to watch the fireworks marking the end of the regatta. It was a bit colder coming back.
Hi ozzidad.
I've never smoked but lung cancer was found back in 2007 (size of a grapefruit!!).
My son smoked but packed up with patches along with a mini nicotine replacement lozenge every now and again.
Mine was inoperable so had chemo and radiotherapy. I'm still here!!!
They've caught yours early so that's brilliant.
I think there's probably a cancer forum on Health Unlocked so you'll get great advice and support there.
All the very best xxxx

I have just had my 75th Birthday. I refuse to let getting older, get in the way of my enjoying the days. I make sure that I look after myself the best way that I can. Certainly `one day at a time` is my new mantra. Take care and good luck ozzida. x
