Blood sugar level
Hi Sanpedro2019,
Your blood sugar levels should be between.....
70-100 mg/dL while fasting
70-140 mg/dL post meal (about 2 hours after food).
I hope this helps.
Stay well
Mark
Thanks is 50 a problem ref diabetes
Usually, a blood sugar level of less than 70 mg/dL is considered too low and needs to be treated. Anything that lowers your blood sugar can cause hypoglycemia, and possibly lead to unconsciousness or coma.
Get some carbs and sugar to increase the levels.
Do you have a blood sugar test machine? If not, invest in one to keep a check.
Hi..I also had bloods taken a few weeks ago..just received a letter telling me my sugar levels were 44 and classed as pre diabetic..apparently anything between 42 and 47 are classed as possible pre diabetic..you need to know what test they used..Good luck..
Thank you
There are two main blood tests related to diabetes. The first are the instantaneous blood sugar level (can be fasting, before meals, 2 hours after meals, etc.). The second is the Hba1c that gives a measure of the average over the preceding weeks.
The units used to measure changed in the UK over two decades ago. Furi_iki figures are for the instantaneous values used previously. I suspect yours is the Hba1c and unfortunately you are in the diabetic range (assumed you are in UK).
It depends on the unit of measurement. If you are in the UK and had an HbA1c test, the result is likely to be given in mmol/mol. Using mmol/mol diabetes is diagnosed at a level over 48, pre-diabetes above 42, and below 42 is normal. It is diagnosed when two consecutive tests are over 48 mmol/mol.
A finger prick test (often self administered) gives results in mmol/l. For example, 50 mmol/mol equates roughly to 8.1 mmol/l (or 146 mg/dl).
So ideally, your level needs to be below 42 mmol/mol. The good news is that this is often achievable through diet and exercise. I reduced from 56 to 38 mmol/mol by changing my diet and monitoring my carb intake. From personal experience I would recommend a low carb Mediterranean diet.
I’m not an expert but please feel to PM me if I can help.
Best wishes
