I have been Type I for well over half-a-century. Were you put on a sliding scale for your surgery. I was for the surgery and a few days after. My BGs were totally haywire going between 3.x and about 27. Once I got control back over my insulin things improved.
The first five days or so are tricky as your body is recovering from major trauma. After three weeks your diabetes should be pretty much under control. Are you carb counting? Most Type IIs should have no more than 100 - 120gm max. Also do you a BG meter? I feel in your position it is critically important.
Trauma and infections really affect BG. I am currently on antibiotics and since I started the course my control has improved. If careful monitoring does not get things under control ring your GP's and ask to speak to a DSN (diabetes specialist nurse). Good luck!
