AV surgery without angiogram?

I've been told by the consultant that my surgery is urgent and is scheduled within 4-8 weeks. I just called the secretary to ask when I might receive my angiogram appointment ( I was informed it had to be done before surgery) to be told they aren't doing any due to the Covid restrictions. She said she had checked and I am not on any lists either as no one appears to be doing them. Wouldn't you think they'd have let the consultant know?

It is the norm to carry out an angiogram before valve surgery particularly if it is for stenosis rather than leakage. An alternative to an angiogram (gold standard) is a CT scan. Have you had one if these?

Another thought was the angiogram scheduled at a different hospital to your surgery as it sounds bizarre they would carry out open heart surgery and not an angiogram. Make sure your consultant is aware of this development.

Agree with Michael, you need to let your surgeon know you are not having an angiogram. Mine was done at a hospital where I was admitted and then I was moved to a different hospital for my surgery. All the results of my tests followed me.

Oh dear sounds like left hand and right hand!!! Your AV surgery - do you mind me asking what exactly it involves as I have posted a question on AV node ablation & pacemaker just this evening. I know in the current pandemic situation a lot of procedures and tests are being cancelled. I was to have had an echocardiogram in March following a cardioversion in January but this was cancelled and am waiting for a new appointment. Do hope you will be able to get it all done before too much longer. I wish you all the best.

Hello Hannah-Hay

Welcome to the forum, I have had my Aortic valve replaced along with a bypass nearly 4 years ago at the age of 68, reading your post I don’t know what a node ablation is, but I can certainly help with info on replacing the valve, If that would be any help to you send me a post and I will tell you how it was for me.

Hope someone comes along with better info than I have.

Stay safe Best wishes Pauline

Thank you for that. I didn’t realise AV was a valve. The AV node is like the junction box between the Atrium & the Ventricle so doesn’t look to be the same thing at all. I don’t think many people have heard of the AV node. Certainly I didn’t until very recently. I’m told I have a couple of leaky valves but no talk about repairing or replacing them. Thank you for your kind offer to tell me about your valve replacement. I may take you up on it if they do decide I need either. Again thank you so much for your help. Very best wishes to you
