Tender chest pain after heart surgery

Hi

My Mum had triple heart bypass surgery in November 2017 and is doing really well biros experiencing a very tender left side of her chest.

She is a large busted woman but even wearing a seatbelt is uncomfortable for her. We keep being told to be patient.

Does anyone else experience this as we are not sure what to do next.

Thank you

Michelle

Worth a check with her GP for issues such as an unstable breastbone or infection.

Please update us after your visit as it may well be relevant to others. Using a small pillow as padding may help with the seatbelt issue.

Hi Michelle, I am 3 months post bypass so not as long as your mum. I am still quite sore at times (I too have a big chest!), but it sounds as if your mum is suffering more. I know when I was discharged from the hospital back to my GP (about 6 weeks post op) they x-rayed me and said that my sternum was fine and healing well enough to drive. Did your mum have an x-ray? I would get her to speak to her GP and get a referral back to the surgeon if needed or at least have another x-ray. It still hurts if I sneeze, catch the wires of my bra on my scar and also if I sleep on my right hand side. Give our best to her and let us know if we can be of any more help. Take care x

Hi wiltsgirl thank you for your reply

Yep my Mum has had an X-ray and we have arranged for her to see her surgeon again in July so fingers crossed we will get a good result
