Hi, I had a stent put in last year, I've had pneumonia in the past, but I got an allotment, do I have to self isolate for 3 months do you think? cos I'll have to get all my spuds planted in a couple of days, the only obstacle to going to the allotment is the gate, I'm not anywhere near other people, and I have washing kit in the car.

Hi reddogg
Please see the link to the NHS document in my earlier post. Self isolating is not necessary, social distancing for 12 weeks is what is required. Have a look at the health conditions listed to see if any of them apply to you.
Hi
Read SpiritoftheFloyd post
I take it to mean I must limit Social contact as much as possible
But able to walk the dog or go for a walk as long as not in close contact with people .
I have 5 of the at risks condition
Age over 60
Heart Attack
High Blood presure although under control with meds
Autoimmune condition PMR long term Steroid use
Overweight .
Will be taking my Mums dog for a walk daily
Only other human contact will be my Son who lives with me
He will be going shopping and keeping himself as save as possible
Then if either of us have symptoms that one would isolate themselves in thier bedroom,
And both would be in isolation.
Knowing how allotments work I think I would still go inform others you are following 10 meter rule .
Antibacterial hand gel or wear gloves opening gate
Thay say we have to beware of our mental health and need fresh air and exercise as well to stay safe.
But at end of day you have to make your own decision .
Stay safe
Thanks , take care :}
My Mum is 92 and has heart frailer waiting to see if thay are willing to operate .
Found her yesterday digging her garden walking stick and frame to support her .
Getting ready to put spuds in
All she said was as long as I get my Potatoes in I wont worry about anything .
Unfortunately I cant help her with digging due to a illness but I will be able to help her when she needs to plant them .
Hope you have a good growing season .
Absolutely go to your allotment- self isolation means keeping your distance from others but exercise is encouraged so dog walking- spud planting good for the soul!!!
Thank you. :}
Sounds like the perfect place to go to me. Wish I had one
Self isolating is a bad phrase. What it means is NOT locking your self in your house but avoiding other people and surfaces they have touched. Go and enjoy your allotment; keep a good distance from other people, and wash wash wash hands. walk the dog, enjoy the garden, just don't go into supermarkets and shops etc
Hi reddogg. We've been to our allotment this morning for 3 hours and planted spuds and broad beans!!
A pair of disposable gloves sorted the gate issue.
I don't think allotments are noted for mass gatherings! Just keep some distance if you're talking to someone.
All the very best xxx
Thanks , yes we do a wave and loud 'hiya' greet as usual really , all the best :}
We've just had some info through from our allotment society about wearing disposable gloves/washing hands when touching taps. I can't think we'd need to water anything just yet! Here in Birmingham it's chucking it down again.
All the best to you and hopefully you've got the potatoes in? xxx
I too have an allotment and do not need to be within 3 feet of any other allotmenteer in order to converse. I would go mad if I had to stay indoors all the time, and surely fresh air ,exercise and sunshine are good for your health and immune system? You can always wear gardening gloves (or surgical/ rubber gloves) while opening the gate, removing them before getting into a car or bus. Get your spuds in and enjoy yourself!
I went to our allotment yesterday and it was deserted- I picked early rhubarb. I’m hoping to get there as much as possible over the coming weeks 🌸
I had to give up my allotment when I developed my heart condition.
My lovely husband redesigned our garden. I now have 6 raised beds, so no digging required.
I cleaned out my greenhouse on Monday now I am just waiting for the seeds I ordered to arrive 😊
Hi I have an allotment with my partner that I dont live with (yet). I had a double bypass 3 years ago and it hasnt worked as it should have.Michael Gove has stated that you can go down the allotment for exercise. My allotment has rules that you 'must wear gloves' when opening the padlock and gate and practice social distancing. Myself and my partner never get more than 3 metres close to each other as he is working and I am off work due to type 1 diabetes and heart disease. It's great to actually be doing something and not having to let the allotment be abandoned. Good luck in your years growth and stay safe and well. 👍🙂
