INR, or international normalized ratio, is monitored routinely when taking warfarin as levels are sensitive to changes in dosing, diet, and other factors. The typical therapeutic INR goal range is between 2.0 and 3.0.Warfarin works in a different way to the newer anti coagulation meds of which apixaban (elquis) is one, but the outcomes are the same in that they both reduce the risk of blood clots.

Monitoring diet particularly the intake of green leafy veg is necessary with warfarin but not apixaban.
